I think this is a reference to the high meat & fat content of the average American male. I believe the longevity rate in Japan and China has been dropping since the introduction of American style fast food. I do know that my parents and grandparents ate a much healthier diet. They all depended on the home garden and ate smaller portions of meat per meal than my family does today. Part of this is because of the fact my wife did not grow up in the country with a much larger vegetable content to her diet. Another part is that I have not wanted to spend the time and energy required to tend to a home garden.
