The senator doesn’t have to do that. He just asks a rich man for bucks and quote the SCOTUS decision Citizens United v FEC. He can become an extremely wealthy man.
Turns out in the US people are free to give politicians, money and gifts, as long as they not specifically tied to any outcome. He can just legally take the money out in the open.
