I giggle at the thought of readers having to tilt their heads every which way to read today’s strip.(I can read upside-down and backwards, so I’m exempt.)
I was just thinking in these terms regarding music. It is equally culturally conditioned such that beloved music of one culture is so much noise to another.
It can also be read in a twisting way. If we number the panels left to right and from top to bottom (1-4, 5-8, 9-12) you can read it as 1, 2, 6, 5, 9, 10, 11, 7, 3, 4, 8, 12. The rotation was designed to hint at that possible order. There are probably more than three logical ways to read today’s strip, and all of them are correct.

It’s interesting that I had no trouble at all with the perfectly right-angle and upside-down ones, but the diagonal ones took me a bit longer.
