There’s some truth to this. And as much as I love a good symphony, you could make the same argument about orchestral musicians. Though in their case the creator usually is revered. Jazz players, now they’re def artists. And many of them have to go to Europe because they can’t “get arrested” in the US.
If anyone’s curious, the actors and actresses are Demi Moore, Tom Cruise, John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Winona Ryder, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Brad Pitt and Sharon Stone.
Personally, I believe that the folks that “need to be celebrated, made wealthy and worshipped like gods” are those that troll around and contribute witty comments to comics on the internet.
It doesn’t make sense to idolize an actor, a sports player, royalty, or any of the other folks we pay attention to. When an actor walks onto the stage, or a player onto the field, I have paid my money to watch them to their job. Once they have done that, they are entitled to a private life, and people who are interested in that private life need to get one of their own.
Before the 19th century writers, painters, sculptors, composers… were craftspeople. The majority of Bach’s correspondence that survives concerns billing for his work. Cellini’s autobiography frequently talks about how much he got paid when he isn’t just doing general self-promotion. The self conscious artist came with the Romantic movement.
I have a lot of respect for good actors. Based on interviews I’ve heard, they don’t just hit their marks and say their lines. They get to understand the characters’ inner workings, and why they do what they do. They have a lot keener understanding of human nature than I do.

Improv is both acting and creation, simultaneously. It’s also really annoying, but I’d call it Art.

A good comic strip entertains, provokes thought, and educates… this one did all three.

Well, I agree completely with Sharon Stone. Cartoonists are the best artists. As I always say, If it’s not funny it’s not art.
