“Shall I join with other nations in alliance? If allies are weak, am I not best alone? If allies are strong with power to protect me,Might they not protect me out of all I own?”
Since the Maastrict Treaty formed the EU as the successor to the EEC, the EU has had its ups and downs economically and politically. It is unfortunate that the ultra-nationalist right in some of the European countries don’t see the benefits they’ve gained in the long term through the union, which showed the foresight of the founders of the EU more than 30 years ago, It does seem that the far right in some of the countries want to return to a disunited Europe. Britain’s travails following Brexit should be a cautionary note, and it does seem that the far right government of Italy has taken a more cautionary approach.

Perhaps the voters in European countries are voting against the leftist totalitarian government the EU has become.
