Why would you want to wake them up just to tell them that they can sleep in?

Never had a snow day but lot of snow, when my dad was station in Germany. Still I can relate with Wallace

Incidentally, it’s a snow day here where I live today too.

And the kid, who a few minutes ago wanted to stay in bed, will now be jonesing to go outside and start sledding!

You have a storm that starts out with rain, goes to freezing rain, and then snow—no one is going anywhere the next morning—especially when the temperature dropped to -25F/-32C overnight, and no one remembered to plug in their block heater.

I grew up in Florida. We had hurricane days instead. You held the shutters while Dad drilled ‘em in. Then you sat in the dark, listening to the radio until it was over. Still better than school… so long as the roof held.
