Every decade, every generation, people say that things have gotten as bad as they could get and it couldn’t get worse. It’s all perspective. Just as we sentimentalize the past, we have this rosy vision of the future. Comics legend Will Eisner did a SPIRIT story in the 40’s, in which he showed a utopia by the 70’s- no crime or poverty. In a later interview, he admitted that many people then believed progress made it inevitable. Oh well!
According to one of my aunts she claims they actually had good time in the depression cause things were “simpler and more natural then.” So we all have selective memory.

I remember great times about 30 years ago (after my divorce). I was working really hard, but my times were great!
