You can say Christmas, but you’ll have to pay royalties to The Donald.

Actually, I think Melvin may be correct. I think that some retail store employees in the recent past, have been told to say something like Happy Holidays, Instead of the traditional Merry Christmas.

Yep, I’m in the hospitality business and we wereordered to say ‘Happy Holidays’ or Season’s Greetings’ so as not to offend anyone. I still say Merry Christmas, though as I see it as most Americans come form a Christian background whether they believe in God or not (like me).

I think this reference is to the mythical “War on Christmas,” as imagined in the fevered brain of Bill O’Reilly and the like. Not specific to retail / marketing / sales, but rather that “Happy Holidays” is somehow inferior to saying “Merry Christmas.” A dumb argument for myriad reasons.

All I’m saying is that ever since Narendra Modi took power in India two years ago, you could go to jail for saying “Merry Christmas”. In fact, one of my friends from college got hanged for being a Christian.

Knowing the Trump/Pence regime, how many of my friends are going to be jailed for being Hispanic/black/LGBT?

Melvin is not just hideous and obese, he’s stupid too. I’d tell him to jump in the lake but the resulting tsunami would cause too much damage. I’d tell him to jump under a train but the derailment would also cause damage. If he had a stroke on a city bus they would have to drive the bus to the hospital and take him off the bus with a pallet and forklift (That actually happened to a family member).

“I celebrate the birth of my savior with Christmas presents.”

Every year I say this as I walk around work handing out presents on the Friday before Christmas. I give out about 100 or so Christmas presents, repeating the “birth of my savior” to everyone.

This is an international company. I get to give Christmas presents to people from all over the world and all walks of faith. One of the best things about working in a big company.

Wasn’t Rita almost fired last year because she said Christmas while stating the policy against saying the word Christmas?

My husband has been known to send Solstice greetings to our pagan friends.

I do not care what people say – Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Festivus. If someone takes the time to share good wishes, I simply say thank you and wish them the same.

I’ll say it again. If there is a war on Christmas, it is the most futile war in the history of the world.

I know. I work for the Post Office and I’m dreading the next month.

Intelligent people understand that it’s entirely proper to say “Merry Christmas” both privately and in public as individuals – just not as representatives of public businesses and institutions trying to appeal to a diverse populace! Only idiots, imbeciles and morons feel constrained by the rules of courtesy and diversity – but then, it was ever thus.

People have been saying “Happy Holidays” and “Seasons Greetings” as greetings for well over a hundred years. And I have yet to see anyone get upset – or have anyone I know get in trouble – for saying “Merry Christmas.” Personally, I only say “Merry Christmas” to people I know are Christians. Saves uncertainty.
