I remember the day I first even heard of the concept of “e-mail” during a training session I attended when it was first introduced at work. 1985. It wasn’t even PC-type email, but a mainframe-based system on “dumb terminals” and the program was called “PROFS.” (Look ’em up, kiddos!!!) Calling this electronic system “mail” struck me as kind of a funny joke at the time. It was a real novelty. Supervisors continued to have secretaries type and send paper-based inter-company correspondence for some years afterwards before this new-fangled “email” really caught on.
