Hmm…17…17! 17 …now where(March 17, 1985) have I heard that number, before?… – Must’ve been a little “interference” passing…Luann had that look that happened when the “rabbit ears” needed adjusting… – Either that, or Greg remembered what Bob Ross used to say about what to do if you run across any “happy accidents” in your art work…

Drawing is important if you’re going to be doing set designs for the theatre.

I always hated the projects in art class where we have to draw “how we see ourselves.” It always felt so narcissistic.

If Luann lives at home, as do Gunther and Quill, I wonder why Bernice is living in a dorm. Sure would be cheaper to live at home. Bonus – no Dez, ferrets, odd packages, etc.

It’s good that the assignment wasn’t to draw Quill 17 different ways, since he basically has no facial features. At least with Luann, as others have noted above, it’s fairly easy to render her face in different styles, since once you get the snout right then you’re halfway there.

17? Try that for a whole semester’s worth of work, not for a first assignment. Sheesh.

Bernie asks Luann if she is learning anything from her assignment….I would think this is a fabulous assignment. As a connoisseur of the arts and a former art student I don’t know if I could come up with 17 different art styles in which to draw myself??? CubismImpressionistCartoonModernismArt DecoRealismRococoSurrealismRenaissanceAbstractExpressionismPop ArtSymbolismRomanticismDadaFauvismNeo-Classical

Some of these I had to look up!!

Symmetry may be a key to beauty; but asymmetry (frame 4) is memorable.

Sigh!Luann did stay in that lunatic’s class. No wonder she’s looking so out-of-sorts in panel 3!Still, SEVENTEEN self-portraits, each in a different style, actually does sound like a legitimate, real assignment. I wonder if Luann will be done in time for St. Patrick’s Day?

Luann said this is a “project” for Mr. Zebo’s class, not an “assignment”. I suspect that means it is not homework for the next class but a long-term project that the students are meant to work on over a period of 2 or 3 weeks. Drawing 17 self-portraits (basically caricatures) in that length of time is not an unreasonable work load.

Unless things have drastically changed since I was at college, freshmen aren’t required to declare a major. They usually have to spend the first year taking required ‘basic’ and intro classes.

Wish we had this assignment back in 1954 during RISD Freshman Foundation. Always had trouble with “Life Drawing” class of the human figure until I started to realize it was an opportunity to “see” the subject matter in a variety of perspectives.

If a person lacks drawing talent, it is difficult to draw anyone or anything, regardless of whether appearances change. For a talented person, there should be no problem.-I honestly think that the last frame was supposed to be some kind of artist’s joke.

Why, that’s pretty much how any college student would look after a bout of studying. Depending, of course, on how much studying was involved.

the one I feel sorry about for this assignment is the football dude. I am not sure he even knows 2 different specific art styles, he might have to go (if he somehow gets a small light bulb in his brain) ……………………. this is Simpsons style, this is superfriends style, this is Flinstones style, this is Zelda style. this is Samurai jack style ETC

never took a single psych class in college. actually I took a 101 and dropped mid-semester. I am concerned that a freshman class is essentially teaching a student how to be judgmental, how to put people in arbitrary bins……..and that Bernice can’t see the value of art as a learning tool or for looking at one’s many sides.
