Congratulations JJ et al. Not sure what year I became a regular. Janis was just loosing her saucepan hair. One question, did the 1985 copyright expire that it needed a 2020?

Don’t think I even became aware of Arlo and Janis until sometime in the mid or late 90s. Whatever newspaper I caught a glimpse of them in. Something in the Virginia Beach area.

This is a great comic. I have been following for many years and hope to continue for many more.

There should be a roadside historical marker somewhere.

And make our own loin cloths?

I believe I was following from very close to the start, and certainly the Gene years.

By god, look at Arlo’s profile, looks like a young George Washington! Get him a cherry pie, and a hatchet.

I love these two. It may not be a “Ha-ha laugh out loud” strip, but it’s relatable. Thanks for keeping it going all these years!

If you look carefully, it appears that the lettering was done by hand. In the last panel, for example, check the different "G"s.

I sure am glad the art evolved. These two are awful hard to look at.

Jimmy, I love your work and I appreciate 35 years of A&J (yes, I’ve been there since the beginning)! Here’s to many, many more!

Why do the arrows under this strip only bring me to May 2, 1994? I would like to binge read the strips starting with Day 1. I don’t want to miss out on any of them. So awesome!

I was in the exact same ‘place’ in my marriage on that date. Memories!

It’s been so long ago for the VCR that many people call the cartridges “VCR Tapes” rather than “VHS Tapes.”

It seems like only yesterday.

Not there at the beginning, another strip I’m glad I discovered along the way. Thanks for all the enjoyment, Jimmy, you help brighten the day.

Got to wonder if Arlo and Janis look back at the images of themselves back then and wonder, “Why did I think I didn’t look good?”

Wow, they look nothing like they do today.

Dang. No one back then would’ve thought that light bulbs could ever be illegal like they are now in the EU.

Thanks for the memories of “back in the day” today, Mr. Johnson, and for all the other ways that Arlo and Janis remind me (often!) that we share a collective memory of times and days and ways of seeing life that seem to matter even more now than they did then.

Don’t get me wrong, A & J has been my favorite comic for years, but seeing the original visual tells me that it’s a good thing his first subscribers had a sense of humor.

Why do I see George Washington?

They don’t even look like Arlo & Janis. How did they expect to grow batteries?

That last one is something his son did, wasn’t it?

Seems like Arlo and Janis have been around a lot longer than 1985. Liked it back then and I still like it today!

I see the art work improved immensely over time. Usually it’s the other way around. But, why does Arlo look like a judge? (here come da judge; here come da judge).

On this day I am twice as old as A&J. It has been one of my favorite comics for many years.

Yes, they look different now than they did. But the old artwork is still recognizable as A&J. I have enjoyed the evolution.
