Spiders are a lot better for killing flies and mosquitos than carnivorous plants, because many of the latter use scents to attract more flies to give themselves a better chance of catching them.
Spiders are the perfect sifters of Dao. They find themselves a place, away from their neighbors, build their web and wait. They don’t complain if their neighbor caught more flies, don’t try and destroy their web. If the position isn’t good, they just move away and try again.
Last year we had a big, pretty black & yellow garden spider on our front hedge. She stayed all summer and ate LOTS of spotted lanternflies! We called her Charlotte, of course. I’m hoping one of her daughters decides to build a web there this summer and keep the bad bugs in check.
NRA wants to place guns in everyone’s hands, Governments want to slow the population growth. Seems that cannibalism would solve both problems! Still love Twilight Zone “To Serve Man”
Nope, just nope. I don’t like spiders. They are sneaky. One of my wife’s creature comforts is the fact there are no creatures in the house, especially spiders and scorpions.
Mosquito net made from spider webs. Great that gets rid of the mosquitos, (they are bad so that’s good) But then the spiders will grow large and then they will, lay their eggs inside an egg sac cocoon, with you inside. Then you will be breakfast for the baby spiders when they hatch. Mosquito net made from spider webs good idea? (NOT!)
Maybe you’ve heard the urban myth: “Humans swallow an average of eight spiders each year while sleeping!”According to Scientific American that myth is a myth ;)Most likely, the average is zero, no reason to be afraid.
As the person everyone always asked to fix their cameras, computers, cars, etc., I have long adopted the policy “Don’t break it if you could not fix it”. I remind myself of that to keep me from injuring, let alone killing, bugs and all other living things. If I saw a brown recluse about to bite a family members I would have to think about it, but I do try to avoid stepping on ants.
I leave spiders alone unless they crawl on me in which case the welcome is over. My wife has never met a spider she liked. I try to stop her from killing outside garden spiders because they look so beautiful,

Mosquitos or spiders. Difficult choice.

I always leave the Daddy long leg spiders alone. They eat the nasty ones, like brown recluse & wolf spiders.

Wolf spiders also eat the brown recluse, and a bunch of other insects

But none of them get the yellow flies, 7 of them got me yesterday and my legs itch like h*ll

Maybe it will meet another spider and find it’s soulmate. Then they would become newlywebs.

Here in the USA what we call “Daddy Long Legs” are actually Harvestmen Arachnids. Harmless to us and do not make webs.

I give all the bugs an ultimatum. If they’re outside, I try to leave them alone. If they’re inside, then their @$$ is mine.

As long as they don’t bite you I suppose spiders would indeed make pretty good static air defenses.

Hence, spiders are our friends. Once they run out of flies, we might need to reclassify, but until then…..

I’m always reassured when I see a spider bopping across my wall. If they’re around it means mosquitoes aren’t.

Leaf hoppers are active now and the spider webbing around the porch lights are doing a good job of catching them.
