Very funny today. Matches my thoughts of what’s coming in the next few weeks. Yard with lots of oaks, blower fueled and ready, ear shields handy, interest zero.
But the best part is living to see another colorful beginning to the season, a short relief from the searing heat of recent summers, and the promise of spring to follow. I’m thankful.
Interesting, what if we lived in a world where things, relative in size of the oak leaf to the ant, fell from the sky. Oh, and then we’d deal with relatively sized acorns and pine cones fell from the sky.
We are an interesting size in this world, not huge, and not tiny. Suppose we were the size of ants relative to the rest of the world, falling fruit or nuts could crush us, a falling raindrop engulf us, and other creatures, just walking around, would destroy our cities. Not to mention when those giants casually pooped on us.On the other hand, if we were blue whale sized, the Earth couldn’t support our numbers. Oh, wait, we CAN have that problem at this size. that problem at this size.
After the hurricane this weekend, I don’t think a lot of people have to worry about raking leaves. Half of the trees at my new (old) house are bare with the other type of tree already about 1/3 shed, and I’m in KY where we only got the remnants of the hurricane. Hopefully, the people in the path further south can rebuild. My sister was just in Ashville a few months ago.

It’s like that scene in Mary Poppins.

The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your ant hill, upon my front lawn
You pesky ants that are always around
You invade my kitchen, all day long
And soon I’ll hear old winter’s song
But I won’ miss you at all you little buggers
When autumn leaves start to fall
The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your ant hill, upon my front lawn
You pesky ants that are always around

One would think that with all of that technology available, they could build a leaf quake house.

Mmm…perhaps the first ones cushion the blow by absorbing the impact. Sort of like the first tackler in a pig pile.

I’d be upset about it too if I were an ant.

You think that’s bad, wait until you experience the first leaf blower of autumn.
