I love that the cats are answering her rhetorical question and she probably has no idea what they’re saying. Lupin’s hanging upside down from the upper window sash is so Lupin! How appropriate it is that Lupin is the one suggesting boundaries.

    Look! It’s an Inverted Lupin!

Sounds like something a fighter pilot would say: "So then, just when he was about to pull the trigger, I pulled an Inverted Lupin, and . . . BAM! I was on his tail!

When we fill the bird feeders the back yard gets really noisy. They put the word out to the whole neighborhood. But when it gets eerily quiet you can usually look up and see a hawk in the area.

Upside down Lupin, wow! Toe beans galore on glass, squeee!! Rare New England usage of the Southern vernacular “y’all,” wow… But my fave detail today has to be Goldie’s genteel pearl-clutching gesture that accompanies her gasp.

    Meanwhile Back on the Nile

Adobe Style: Aurelia and I go way back. Her whole family are golden sheep.

Aurelia: Yes, we’re just a day’s journey by camel.

Jason: So simple. I’ve spent my whole life as a sailor, I didn’t even think to go by land.

Aurelia: Well, come with us when we go back to Afar. It’s shearing time anyway.

    Jason: Thanks, I’ll do that.

    Enter Lupinium and several insects

Lupinium: Your Majesty, please give us a few minutes to set up.

Queen Catshepsut the Golden: I just love the tiny circus!

    Maat-Tilda: So shiny!

Jason: I’ve sailed the seven seas, and at last I found the Golden Fleas!

By the way, I believe Jason…and I think Jason is a liar.

During mating season jays can be quite aggressive. One of them harassed my cat Johnny Depp, one time too many. A big crowd of noisy jays came to the “funeral” but he didn’t care. He right felt he was under no obligation to let birds peck him on the head with impunity.

Here in northern California it’s acorn season, and we have a HUGE scrub oak in our neighbor’s back yard. Here, it’s not jay vs. jay; it’s jays vs. squirrels. “Shriek! Shriek!” “Chitter chitter chitter!” From dawn till dusk.

Like my house whenever there is a jaybird fight. All cats to the windows. Tails flicking and even getting into a pouncing readiness wiggle.

Birds are believed to be the last remaining dinosaurs. Whenever I hear the earsplitting shrieks of a blue jay or magpie, I try to imagine the same noise scaled up to an Allosaurus size body.

    Y’all, Lupin is Southern! Gasp!

Thank Cat the kids aren’t there. To quote Captain America, “Language!” I have blue jays, but they are so territorial that they never squabble. My back yard is no bird land for them, and I only see them during snows when surviving by eating my seed is more important than the squabbles.

A little while ago, I was watching the hummingbirds attack each other at my window feeder, and a large yellow swallowtail butterfly barely escaped the dogfighting going on. Not cool, guys.
