And that’s why I ball up the foil, drop it on the floor, and stand on it. Then fold it and foot-flatten again. Tiny, compact wad which is now of little or no interest to my feline trash inspectors.

Silly humans. First, you put the fish debris and the tin foil in the trash, then you tie it up and put it immediately in the outside garbage tote or metal trash can. It stops the cats from going crazy and gets that fish stench out of the house.

Thomios: Thanks for helping clean up, Elvis.

Elvis-Anum: It’s the least I can do after that sumptuous meal.

Thomios: To show my appreciation, I’ve had Sue Chef make up a packet of leftovers for you.

Elvis: Oh, you didn’t have to do that.

    Sometime Later

Sue Chef: That’s a clever idea, offering leftovers in exchange for helping to clean up.

Thomios: Works every time. We need a packet for Puckmosis, and Bea, and Burt-Ra and Wally and…

This would be why I have a Simple Human can with a lid that has the step on rise up feature. Not so much for Loaner Cat, she can’t jump on anything more than about 18 inches off the ground but she’s a mountain lion when it comes to scaling things. It’s our Blue Boy, Murphy the Doberman. If it’s in the trash, it’s fair game. With the step on can though, he just can’t figure out how to step on the pedal and then get his face in the trash because the minute the lid goes up, he’s so excited that it’s going up and starts dancing, he takes his foot off the pedal and down goes the lid! This is why we don’t have the motion activated one either, we’d be in trouble then. But if he and Loaner Cat learned to work together…

Tonight, the last of the corned Beef will become Hash. With a nice over-easy egg on top. Hamilton will supervise, of course.

That appears to be a garbage can with a lid, which is usually enough to keep out dogs (unless they knock it over). Truly great are the lengths cats would go to for fish, especially of the cat is a determined Siamese. As a side note, I feel about leftover fish the way most (based on two weeks ago) feel about leftover corned beef.

Other option is simply put the foil on the floor and let them have at it until clean. Highly effective

A tight lid or removing the trash to outside is a good idea. Years ago, a friend’s dog fished an avocado pit out of her kitchen trash. I wouldn’t think that would have any appeal (slimy, flavorless) but when told to drop it, she defiantly swallowed it. The vet told them this required surgery or it could kill her. So at a time when money was tight, they had to spend hundreds of dollars but all went well and the dog lived many more years.

Fish does not keep as long as other foods, so boneless leftover fish makes good cat snacks.

Leftovers? Fish is one of the very few items that there’s rarely leftovers here. Usually because I’ll eat any remaining fish after everyone else is done.

We love fish and have it almost every other day. But we only cook enough for one dinner. All other is either frozen or being defrosted. (Unless we are lucky enough to be offered fresh by neighbors who caught more than they needed.) However, the dog and cats do each get a bite unless the fish was prepared in a sauce or with a spicy coating. Mostly it is baked or broiled plain or sautéed in just butter.
