I want to know what kind of buzzy mouse that is and where she got it. I bought one for Foxy, but it only buzzes for a second or two when you pull the string.

This is the sweetest adaptation of a Poe story ever. Pucky’s face in the 9th panel, thinking about his friend and his joy in the last panel at seeing Buzzy Mouse.

I love the reference to Poe’s Tell-Tale Heart.

he/him/his or she/her/hers or they/them…what does it matter? My respect for you to decide for yourself is the least I can do and using the pronoun that makes you happy and feel secure is my pleasure.

Very nice! Using our characters in his story just works, because Elvis is too tightly wound to play it cool and Puck is just too forgiving. Now if Elvis had hidden buzzy mouse under the couch, that would have been different.

    1. This is a comic strip. 2. Cats don’t necessarily use the same “proper” english that humans do. 3. Georgia Dunn is sharing her creativity and imagination with us in a genre that I, for one, have never seen or experienced before. 4. Please, let’s leave the politics and whatever else at the door so that we can all enjoy this remarkable comic strip! Thank you from a crusty old Veteran.

Speaking of Poe, “Hollywood Graveyards,” a YouTube channel which visits famous and obscure creative people, has a Halloween special on Poe. It’s an hour long movie about the women who were Poe’s ghostly muses.

    A-ha: Take on Me

    Talking today,

Don’t know what pronouns to say,

    I’ll say it anyway,

The Orb is too important to argue

    Over a few words,

    It’s all OK!

    …….

    Let’s all be

    (Let’s all be)

    All good friends

    We can agree to disagree!

    …….

    We all love the cats

    And little Buzzy,

    They are the same

    As they have always been,

    At least they should be!

    …….

    Let’s all be

    (Let’s all be)

    All good friends

    We can agree to disagree!

For Cat’s sake, Orbsters, let it go and let it be, I’m surprised at you! I love you all but I cringed when I read today’s comic because I immediately foresaw exactly what has happened here in the comments, but not the extent. Just enjoy the comic in the spirit for which it was intended. Not everything needs to be analyzed, criticized, justified. It’s supposed to be fun and I intend to continue to enjoy BCN as such. Thank you, Georgia, for years of enjoyment, and please carry on as you see fit!

Ah, the Tell Tale Heart with a happy ending. :). Of course, after reading some of Poe’s poetry, I got the feeling he often considered death a happy ending too ;) Glad this one worked out well for Puck and Buzzy

I cannot decide whether Georgia’s use of “them” is intended as an expression of inclusiveness, or an illustration of how awkward using that pronoun can be. It makes a good case for a new, completely un-gendered pronoun. Rather than quibbling about it like a quabble of ducks, we should try to come up with one.

My suggestion is “hou” — “H” for “human,” “him or her,” “ou” as a formation from “you,” “o” for “other,” and “u” for “us,” as in “one of ours.”

(Now watch: that phoneme will turn out to mean something really bad in another language.)

Briefly: I’m kind of amused by the fact that the objections are coming out now, to this relatively minor linguistic expression, and not when the mail carrier said they prefer to be called mail carriers rather than mailmen; when the family was shown quarantining and worked from home (HIGH FIVE! PET ME!), wearing masks (cute animal ones, yet) and getting the vaccine, planting trees (saving the earth) or way back when they celebrated “St. Patrick’s Day Exploded”. This isn’t like Doonesbury . The only agenda Georgia can be said to be promoting involves impossibly small boxes, traffic cones with fairylights on them, snuggly blankets, true crime narratives, hot coffee, and being covered in cats.

Silly me here I was assuming them meant the People were smart like me and bought multiple of the same of beloved toys. I still have new pink pigs for my Dalmatian and he passed in 2009 because he couldn’t be without one. I also have lots of black Kong flying discs because my Weim who passed 1 1/2 years ago would never be without 1 or 2 of those. Long live favorite toys.
