I suspect she either swept him into it, or that it somehow fell from the hayloft at just the right moment. A funny coincidence, of course, nothing more.
My bucket’s got an owl in it, Yeah my bucket’s got an owl in it, Yeah my bucket’s got an owl in it. Wicket took a broom to his rear. With sincere apologies to the Great Hank Williams. Not a fan of country, but I know greatness when I hear it.
Elvis-Anum: Everyone got their snacks? Good. Now, to continue the story of Meowses.
I could only see my true love from a distance, but he saw my slow blink and he blinked back. I was emboldened to give a shout to the moles tunneling towards me, “GIT!” Several ran away in fright.
As more and more moles got, in the distance an owl came flying towards us. Was it the Great Horned Owl himself? It resembled him, but seemed younger. Perhaps his son, Raptor, was coming to join the fight.
I kept shouting until my voice cracked. Just when I thought I could fight no longer, there was a welcome presence beside me.
“We’ll stand and fight together.” My true love reassured me.
Just then the young owl landed not ten feet from us. “Stop this fighting!” He shouted. “There must be another way!”
Lisa of the Mole Resistance came up to him. “Listen to Raptor!” she Shouted.
The leader of the Mole Army, Monty Mole, came up from his tunnel. “What do you mean?” he demanded.
“We can solve our conflict at games” Lisa replied. “Let’s have a Lawn Potato tournament!”_
“Agreed!” called Monty
Bea: So everything came down to a Lawn Potato tournment?
Elvis: So it would seem.
Beaver Lee Cleary: This is some great research. Until now, it was thought the story of Meowses and Growl Tiger was just a myth.
Elvis: We’ll conclude the story after a quick nap.
I’m wondering if Burt is holding a remote control for his camera. I don’t think he needs a translator. From everything I’ve seen all the critters seem be able to communicate between species with no problem.
So much to love about this strip: Lupin – serious news reporter in panel 1 to his single fan, slightly amused look in panel 2. The dark scribbles of anger above Wicket as he flies off (but, considerately returning Baba’s bucket to her!) and Goldie’s glee in panel 3. The perspective of panel 4 … Classic Baba scowl, and of course, Burt’s New England “Ayuh.” (With part of the bucket handle in his paw?)
Good job, Baba! Standing ovation! I’m just sorry I missed seeing it “live”.
Hey, Burt, it would be a shame if someone techy made that picture into a “Technical Difficulties” screen for future BCN broadcasts. Why, Wicket would never live it down. But I’m sure no one techy would do anything like that…

Baba is determined AND self aware. That’s a good combination of qualities to possess.

I’ve heard of the chicken dance, but I think Wicket just unwittingly created the owl dance! Bucket sold separately!

I thought the only time birds appeared in buckets was after they’d been deep-fried. It’s nice to be proven wrong.

Procol Harum: A Whiter Shade of Pale
That pesky owl came flying
At the window he did land
I was feeling very angry,
As he smiled, sounding grand,
The kits were safely hidden
Beatrix watched them carefully
As Burt communicated
To Queen Mags’ chickadee.
…….
And so it was that while I was sweeping,
That pesky Wicket told his tale
And with a few flicks of my broom
He ended up in the pail!
…….
I still don’t know the reason
What his end game might really be
But the cats and mice have rallied,
And squirrels and chipmunks can all see
There is a battle soon to come now
And we know we are gonna win!
We will never give up the fight now
The strength that comes from within!
…….
And so it was that while I was sweeping,
That pesky Wicket told his tale
And with a few flicks of my broom
He ended up in the pail!
