Ora Zella knows where the best roasty toasty loaf spot is! Yes she does! ෆ╹ .̮ ╹ෆ I just want to give her ear scritches, chin scritches and kiss her cute furry head!
It’s 14 here right now. My girls are curled up by the heat. Gracie in the box by the front door, but Sara has rediscovered the pretty, pink kitty bed I bought for Nadia over 20 years ago. Neither girl would sleep in it for years. It was as if they said, that’s a baby’s bed. We’re BIG GIRLS now. LOL
This is a new warm spot real life Ora Zella discovered when she came to live with the kids and I, and now Elvis sneaks up there too! Somehow all the other cats had missed it all these years!
It’s lovely to see those two together like this: Down to earth Iggy, his toes beans in sweet smelling soil, dreaming of sunshine; and Ora Zella, tireless Agent of Chaos, having a little spa day with her newly discovered mini-sauna. Life in the Big Pink House is GOOD!
The old dryer was the popular warm spot in the basment at our place for years. The new one must be better insulated, it stays cool on top even when it’s running.
In our bedroom, Marie’s hope chest is over one of the floor vents. It sits on legs, so there is space underneath it, and that is where Holly Bear is during cold weather. All the warm air is concentrated, and she loves it.
My cats like sleeping on top of the gas fireplace that heats the apartment. Right now, they are all sleeping on the bed4333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333333330ppppexcept for Smudge, who just decided to join me and, as you can see, put his two cents’ worth in.
Just saw on Weather Channel a video of a sea lion pup rescued from a San Diego freeway on Thanksgiving being released back to the ocean. Police carried the pup in a large dog crate and open it near the beach. Pup scurries out, takes a few steps toward the ocean, and then……turns right around and goes back in the crate! It is now in the care of Sea World and has been named Gobble. Obviously got spoiled by a quiet refuge with food supplied, no need to hunt, and just nope, nope, noped his way back.
Georgia posted this yesterday. Very late so I’m repeating it: "It’s my “Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything” birthday today!! (Courtesy of the late Douglas Adams and ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’!) I’m finally 42!! Surely one of the kings of nerd-number years. (Only to be topped by Bilbo’s 111? ) I’m looking forward to a brand new year and treated myself to the loveliest, most ridiculous coat this morning. I’ve been telling everyone it’s genuine Muppet (please, don’t panic—it’s actually faux Muppet!) and I love it. Thank you so much for all of the kind messages and comments on @gocomics and the BCN socials wishing me a happy birthday today! I read them all on GoComics this afternoon and they made me very happy! Here’s to 42!!!”
Georgia posted this yesterday as well, “Thank you so much for all of the wonderful birthday wishes, everyone!! My day was very happy, and then after the kids bedtime a little of the “oh dang, day is done” late night sentiments snuck in, and I came here and read through all of these birthday comments and they lifted my spirits right back up! Thank you so much. I’m so grateful for all of you and cannot wait for another year of storytelling!”
OT: My brother Steve, who lived with my parents, collapsed this morning at the kitchen table and could not be revived. I am the oldest and he is the middle at 64. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was computer and math wiz and a member of Mensa until Alzheimer’s robbed him of all that. He was fun to be with to the end and although he sometimes had trouble putting thoughts together could still joke about his condition. One more empty chair for the holidays as my FIL passed last month after several years in and out of the hospital for different reasons.
Our cat recently discovered that there’s heat coming out of the bottom of our refrigerator constantly, and she’s made it a new stop on her nap circuit. Some days, she’ll camp there, only taking breaks for food and the litter box.

Dishwashers are AMAZING, when you think about it. There’s a robot in my kitchen that does my dishes for me! How could it get cooler than that?

Iggy snuggled in HIS plant is the best thing in the world today. Ora Zella, in all her chaotic cuteness, in SLEEP MODE, is a close second.

While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
And mamma in her ’kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap,”

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
At the Artisans’ Studio
Arachna Spider: It was nice of Iggy to arrange the new cotton bolls in rows. Now to spin it into cloth.
Maat-Tilda: I wonder if we should dye the new fabric colors.
Sophititi: We have plenty of tomato dye after Lupinium declared Pink Season was over.
Arachna: I think we should see how much fabric we make first.
Adobe Style: Sounds like a plan.
Sometime Later
Tillie: This is such a lovely fabric, Ari. You did an amazing job.
Ari Spider: Let’s see if it passes the Ora Z test.
Ora Z: You want me to shred the cotton?
Tillie: That’s right. Let’s see how strong this cotton really is.
Sometime Even Later:
Dobes: It’s awfully quiet. Anyone see Ora Z?
Soph: Let’s see where she is. Last I saw her she was messing with the cotton.
Ari: There’s the fabric. Do you see her?
Ora Z: ZZZZzzzzzz….

Wouldn’t it be nice when it gets colder
Cats will find a place that’s nice and warm?
And wouldn’t it be nice to nap together
On the kind of things they don’t belong?
You know it’s gonna make it that much better
When it’s not a stovetop nor pointsettia
Oh, wouldn’t it be nice?
