Although World War Mole dominated this year’s news cycle, I looked forward to each episode. I love it when Georgia does a story arc and the pop culture references too. Happy New Year to the Orb.
OT: Just a little update on our new kitty, Yogi Bear. He has been with us now for 4 1/2 months. He’s a sweet tempered boy who tries his best to make Katie like him. She still wishes he lived someplace else. She slaps him when he gets into ‘her’ bed, she guards the bedroom entryway, to try to prevent him from coming into the room and getting into my bed. He has figured out if he can get to my bedroom first, he can get into bed without an arguement. He stays until 3 AM, and like clockwork, he’s up and on the move. It is amusing to watch the interaction of these two. And if anybody ever tells you cats are stupid, don’t believe them. They can be problem solvers and devious if they want to be. I’ve witnessed it. Hubby and I adore and love both of them.
They had a nice dinner together, but avoided a nicely baked legume, dish. The children tried the dish first, and liked it…soon, everyone gave peas, a chance…
I love it when news organizations follow up on big stories from the year. You always hear about the original item that made the news, but never the outcome. Tommy will be a great reporter for this special.
Beatrixia: This is getting interesting! Were the elves able to win over the Indignant People?
Elvis-Anum: Mag-Lor goes on in his scroll:
Father considered for a while, and said, “I think it is possible to re-create the properties of a sunstone. It is not unlike when I captured the light in the silmarils. Perhaps I can create a crystal that captures the light of the sun. But I need to know what materials are available.”
Australis replied, “My sister can help with that. She can create miraculous items from seemingly nothing.”
While my father and Aurora worked on creating the sunstone, Australis and I compared notes. Since the Indignant People have no written language, I volunteered to write down the stories as he told them. It is always great to meet a fellow storyteller. He told me his sister could tell me more about their tools and technology. When I met her, I met the most beautiful and capable person I ever have met in my travels.
My local newspaper is doing the top 10 local news stories. Number 10 was my late parents’ church leaving the Methodist Conference. My parents would not be happy about this.
I can’t wait for the whole history in book form. I thought it ended too quickly, being just a bit abrupt. I have a lot of questions. Like the gumballs in the basement. Did the moles stop to chew and blow bubbles or were they simply bowled over? Was all the “ammunition” used at once or were there several waves of attack? Were the red balls more effective than the green? Did moles pack up the leftovers and take them with them? What exactly happened there? I hope the book will provide the details.
I think Goldie and the others need to interview all parties and add to the narrative and she and the official scribe (whose name I have forgotten, I’m sorry to say) can create a magnum opus for us (illustrated by Georgia, of course).
Has anybody mentioned the beautiful Georgia Dunn night sky? And for once, both of Tommy’s ears are under his cute cap. Must be really cold out in the wildlands.
Another avatar change. This is the view I woke up to this morning: the lil gray guy curled up next to me, the orange plush within paw’s reach of him, and the tortie princess in the background. Sweet!

Dominated the news cycle. I’ll say. It ran from July 10 until November 7.

That was indeed big news. I am happy it resolved peaceably.

I’m so glad Tommy is doing a follow up report. So many human news crews arrive during the crisis but never go back to see the recovery.

It’s nice to see that the peace between the tribes still holds. On a downside, it’s very difficult to type with Imp snoozing on my left hand and arm.

Yes, that certainly was the dominant BCN story of 2023. I am now inspired to do my own retrospective to see what my favorite BCN of the year was.

Cass Elliot: It’s Getting Better
Once I believed that when the war broke out
Life would be a constant struggle full of fear and doubt
But with the war’s end
We have formed a new group of friends
And believe it or not
I would not change a thing of whatever we’ve got!
…….
And it’s getting better!
Can’t go wrong now!
Friends forever!
Getting better every day! Better every day!
…….
I no longer fear going into the deep woods
I know the moles and opossums are all there for the good!
Watch the sky at night
Underneath the beautiful moonlight
And it’s not hard to see
That it’s only half as good as it’s gonna turn out to be!
…….
‘Course it’s getting better!
Can’t go wrong now!
Friends forever!
Getting better every day! Better every day!
…….
And I don’t mind waiting
For our friends forever
’Cause no matter what some owl says
Still all of us know!
…….
That it’s getting better!
Can’t go wrong now!
Friends forever!
Getting better every day! Better every day!

I hope Elvis’ thoughtful piece on how creepy electric socket faces are is included. It was a nice piece of commentary.
