I am usually the first person calling for more weirdness, but I’m with Elvis on this one. IF hot dogs can get weirder, is that a door we really wanna open? Just give Pucky his old food back already before we’re invaded by some weird hot dog aliens that make us THEIR pets!!!!! Although, Perry Farrel was right, we’ll make great pets!
Meanwhile, Foxy is happily eating Tiki Cat Silver Mousse (“For Cats Aged 11+” — love the “Aged”) Salmon and Pumpkin. It also has dried (chicken) egg, sunflower seed oil, turmeric, green tea and a lot of vitamins for creaky old geezers. This is the first time she’s tried this one, but I’ve given her several others with pumpkin and she loves them. Of course, she thinks these are some kind of fancy Churus, so has to eat them directly out of the pouch or lick off my hand, or out of a spoon. I didn’t want her eating off a plastic spoon, so yesterday I bought her a little bamboo spoon at the Korean grocery and she eats off that.
Le’letha posted this late on Wednesday, but I thought I would repost it early today so more people could see it.
From Georgia’s social media:
It’s that time of year again—time for me to submit BCN strips to the National Cartoonists Society for the annual Reubens Awards! What were your favorite new ‘Breaking Cat News’ strips in 2023?
The biggest rule is I can ONLY submit strips first published between January 1st and December 31st can be considered. No other years can be submitted. Every year readers suggest a few that have slipped my mind, I’m so grateful for your suggestions each year! I can submit up to eight examples!
Thank you in advance for any suggestions!!
Line up your favorites and let Georgia know! This is the year she wins! I believe!
BCN must be unhealthy – it’s NEVER tasteless…(apropos “weird hot dogs”: according to the male dogs in my neighborhood, “Lassie” is a “hot dog” – whatever that means)
“If you like laws and sausages, you should never watch either one being made.” I’ve heard that actual wurstmeisters find this quote to be profoundly offensive. ;)
I don’t blame Puck for being upset and raging against the new food. It should have been introduced gradually.
OT: Buddha
The little rascal is fine. He’s just hiding and not eating because he’s close to shedding, and his eyesight is very bad right now. He saw well enough to fill his water dish with shavings, though, after I went to the trouble to scrub out his dish and fill it with fresh water! The cats miss their buddy.
Don’t test hot dog manufactures, Elvis. Honestly, if it weren’t for things like the FDA, the things that could go into them could be even more horrifying, as evidenced by the fact that was precisely why things like the FDA came into existence in the first place, so to STOP such practices.
Asking for prayers for my Natalie. She’s 13, and completely healthy except her weight has been going down slowly over the last couple years. Just found out her liver enzymes are high. She’s going to have an ultrasound Monday.
Just had a hilarious moment. Birdie (five month old kitten) was snuggled up on my chest in bed while I was reading on my iPad. I decided to check the back door camera to see if we had any birds outside. The volume was higher than I realized and the sound of a wren singing right next to the camera exploded from my iPad speaker. At the exact moment my ”just barely not a kitten anymore,” Dilly, leaped onto my chest like she’d been dropped from an airplane. In Birdie’s confused little kitten brain, Dilly had suddenly swooped in from the sky making bird noises! She catapulted herself off the bed and ran and hid under it, and it took me several minutes to coax her out and convince her that her playmate hadn’t suddenly started shrieking like a bird.
BTW, way back in October I explained here that Birdie had gotten that name because she made strange wheedling chirping noises which she would probably grow out of. Well, here it is January and her meows are just as strange and funny as ever! We’re hopeful that she may keep this up even as a grown cat.
Make the changes gradually. About 90 – 95% original and 5 – 10% new for about a week. Then up the percentage of new a bit for a few weeks and keep at it and eventually they’ll get all new food and they will enjoy it. Try to give your pack/clowder a variety. The same thing everyday gets boring and sooner or later you’ll find yourself with a “finicky” eater. If the same thing was given to you every day, you’d get finicky as well.
Swapping waffles for stale toast it called French Toast and I love French Toast. Puck, if you switched foods out the humans, at least the adult humans, would try it before passing judgement.
It’s amazing that we eat hot dogs and nobody knows what’s in them. If you think about this, nobody knows what’s in cigarettes either, and a lot of people smoke them. Maybe the idea of selling is to make it mysterious and bad for you.

It’s theoretically possible, Elvis. Let’s not tempt anybody to come up with proof.

Stale bread for waffles? Swap away! I can’t eat either one so at least with the bread I can feed the wild turkeys.

Thomios: I think the Make Your Own Pizza luncheon was a hit. The kittens came up with combinations I never thought of.
Sue Chef: The White Pizza with Peppers and Onions sounds interesting, even delicious.
Thomios: And who would have thought the kittens would like chopped tomatoes, onions, and peppers?
Sue Chef: Of course, someone had to think of using tomato sauce and cheese in the first place.
Thomios: Can you imagine? There was actually a time when there was no pizza!
Sue Chef: Perish the thought! Now let’s get ready for a pizza buffet.

People are more adaptable. With stale bread, you make toast. With mash, you fry it in oil and make fritters.
