Orb Update:

Thank you, everyone for your kind words when I reported what was happening, re: Mom and her husband. She is still physically “holding on” (or as in The Last Remake of Beau Gest, “alive but dying” forever.. ) She is breathing, but never conscious. She is as far as I am concerned, passed. I have said my farewells.Once the business with her husband clears, I will be changing my name to eliminate his from my life, and going no contact on him. These last few days are just the latest in his years of narcissism. I have been able to move beyond the initial grief and anger. I am alright and at peace that she lived a good life, well loved and loving. If I get her recipe book and desk grenade, great, I’ll be happy, if not, I’ll be less happy, but still OK. I feel that no longer having to stay silent so that past things he’s done won’t cause her pain, and being able to finally shut him out of my life, a great weight has been lifted off me. I can FINALLY just be me. Thank you all for your support in this difficult time.

I am sorry for your loss. You and your mom did not deserve any of that, and I’m glad you can move on despite that jerk.

OT: I Posted this last night but it was so late I’m reposting what Georgia said on face book: “My 2023 Reubens submission has been received! Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who suggested BCN strips to submit! I sometimes struggle with the overwhelm of “too many choices.” Being able to read your suggestions and single out your top favorites helps me to decide! The majority of these strips were the ones I saw come up again and again in your comments. This year I decided to include two examples of continuing strips/stories. I wanted to include Lady Jane’s diary SO much. If they had allowed 10 submissions it would have been in there. As many of you know, I’ve had A HECK OF A YEAR, and so up until last night I wasn’t sure I was going to have the emotional bandwidth to submit. I was sitting on the fence about it (ok, on the bathroom floor while the kids brushed their teeth) when the Girl noticed my long face and asked what was up. I explained that I really wanted to submit my comics to “the big comics award show”, and most of the comics were already chosen. I just felt pretty exhausted and wrung out. “I don’t know if I can this year. I might take it off my plate.” She immediately put her hand in my shoulder and said, “Mom!! You’ve got a dream! Hand it in!” Well, who can say no to that? (Thank you, Gwen.)”

OT: Shadow update.After a few week of treatment, antibiotics, steam room baths, and hand feeding, including NutraCal jel (he never got back to eating on his own) he just isn’t getting better. He showed some signs of improvement for a while but not anymore. We are taking Shadow in the morning to help him cross the Rainbow Bridge. He had a wonderful 3 years indoors with us since we took him in but he developed an infection on his face and being FIV the antibiotics just couldn’t beat it. Carmela is on the couch with him now.
