I used the inferior screen going blurry trope yesterday. That got me to thinking of all the BCN phrases we’re incorporated into our lexicons. What are some other favorites you remember?
I like to think Georgia is secretly maintaining a list of comic strips by running time, with say “The Wiggle Much” at one end and something like the Katzenjammer Kids at the other, and she’s gradually moving her little BCN symbol up and up…
Thinking about it, one of my favorite strips was when Beatrix asked if the station tweeted, and Elvise said birds have their own news. Then she posted a selfie of her and the whole crew.
OT from Georgia. I know this quote mentions pictures but the last paragraph details her many rejections before BCN. “Always wear the donut!” felt like the right BCN quote to go with for the next ten years! It’s been a while since I wrote on a cake (I did not make the cheesecake, only decorated it!) but it passed the taste test at least. The Girl made a sign on the chalkboard for the occasion, and had me add Pucky in the lower left corner. Me as a new Mom wearing the Boy, then the Baby, on an afternoon outing to the local zoo. I had uploaded the first BCN strip that morning, never realizing that was going to be the start of something this wonderful. You always hope folks will enjoy when you share a new project, of course. You hope this will be “it,” the big thing that resonates with others and leads to handshakes and book deals and signings. That’s the fantasy. And I still believed in myself, with every new illustration series and comic idea… But this was project pitch number 50 or 60 (or higher ) over a lifetime. The previous ten years I’d had all my comic and children’s book submissions rejected. Agents rejected me too. I used to tape a thin, almost invisible thread across my book submissions, to see if publishers had actually opened them. So many were returned to me with the thread intact and a standard copy “not interested” letter. That was achingly frustrating—if only they’d taken a look at my work!!—and also somehow comforting—well, maybe it’d be different if they’d taken a look…I’m so grateful you all took a look. Thank you"
My favorite broadcast is Puck’s climbing trip to the attic wherein he gets trapped in a trunk. In the end where Freddie is petting him touched my heart. Some of my best cats have been black cats [Black Satin, Carbon Copy, Peppurr and Hannah, a kitty with CH].
I went back to another one of Elvis’s weather reports to find his quote about a “chickadee front.” (“The weather is crows…with a chance of cardinals…a chickadee front moving in.”) I was surprised to see that he was outdoors since the only other time I can remember him being outdoors was when he got lost. Then I realized that the archival panel Georgia used Monday had Elvis also outdoors in a rainstorm. So were these outdoor reports part of Elvis’s imagination, or does he also know the secret of how to escape the Big Pink House. But if he does, why did he ask Beatrix how she keeps getting out?
George was celebrating BCN’s 10 year anniversary by turning off my monitor. Maybe not as bad as turning off the power strip, but still hard to work when I can’t see the screen. I figured it was either that or he thought I should be outside enjoying the 70 degree weather since it looks like it will be at bit before it is that warm again. That’s probably good. I saw two tulips open today, tulips open in March around her is the kind of thing that strikes terror in the hearts of many. :)

I’m a wee bit disappointed that there are no flamingos on Tommy’s tux, but it is a satisfying shade of magenta, so I’m happy for that.
