Most people don’t have chip readers at home. Cats can wear collars and tags, just like dogs do.

Poody, who is chipped, would never run away. I never bothered with Roy or P Pickle despite their outside proclivities. Pickle has long since passed, of course, and never ran away in her 14 years. Roy is a very good boy, and Although I don’t know all of his hiding places outside, he is a good boy and always returns, even when he has accidentally spent a few nights outside, once in the deep of winter!

I’m still trying to figure out how a person could see a cat sitting in front of a house and not instantly assume that the cat lives in that house.

OT fireworks and pet shelters

I’m mad as well! And I don’t think I’m going to tolerate this any longer!

I think those people just really want to keep her!

Hamilton & Holmes are both Chipped. I am not so worried about Hamilton, but Holmes has taken to running out the door when I let the dog in and out. Even though he was born and spent the first six months in a feral community, the Holmes Cat is woefully unprepared to make his way outdoors anymore.

The Shelter we got both cats from should have transferred the Chip registry to our family when we got them. But how would we know they did it?

One more thing to worry about.

As of two days ago, any owned cats in England (not Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland yet, I believe) legally have to be chipped.

See this can only means it was aliens. They not knews about this chips. Say what chip it be and how does writes on chip that someone is reads em? Me never knews you can writes on chips. Me only eats em chips. Them crunchy munchy chips.

You be lucky only if them steenky aliens is still on earth and has cat in one of em secret hideout of theirs. Otherwise says bye byes to your cat pal for good.

The first thing any responsible person does is take a “found” cat to the vet, the first thing any responsible vet does is scan for a chip.

Lupin might have gotten it right when he said the people who picked up Sophie were only thinking free cat.

OT: Floors

They probably don’t realize she HAS a chip to read either.

I find it interesting that the cast all knows they are chipped and their purpose.

I know Georgia will bring us a happy ending but this is still stressful. Cute, but stressful.

When Ollie showed up in our yard, after showing up on the trail camera on and off for about a year, we took him in to be scanned. No chip, no surprise given the area we live in. He wasn’t feral, and he’s well-mannered, so we suspect he was a wandering housecat. He seems content to live with us now.

Our older cat Felix was a true foundling. His mother had holed up in a brush pile in a nearby state park with her litter of 3. Momcat Ivy (no chip) was the absolutely best cat we’d ever had. Sadly, she died young of a virus she’d probably had for awhile. Her son Felix is a hellion, but he’s mellowing with age.

Given the local cat population, there’s a strong suspicion that Ollie & Felix may be cousins.

Poor dear Puck, doesn’t realize the people don’t have any brains and are very inconsiderate of tiny black tigers.

Sophie doesn’t have a lovely collar with a tag?

I’m gonna go out on a limb here (it’s quite stout, don’t worry) and predict that the woman who catnapped Sophie, saying she was “all alone” and had “no family” and “no home” was actually projecting her own loneliness onto Sophie. I’m betting those people will have a story we will sympathize with by the time this is all over. But, in the meantime, I’m going back to the comfort snacks…

Georgia said on Facebook that we are going to get a Puck chart this week show what you should do if you find a pet outside.

There are many chip registration databases. Some are free, others charge a yearly fee. Some charge just once when you get the chip. AVID/PetTrac which did all my cats’ chips charges $20 per year which I could not afford. I have Foxy on Free Pet Chip Registry (and Shadowman, just in case). The American Animal Hospital Association runs a central registration database that incorporates 40+ other databases so when the vet scans a chip it’ll identify if it’s registered with any of those companies. This service has been needed for a long time.

Back in the gap between when Miss Kitty went to the bridge and Jasper leapt through my classroom window, a very friendly dog showed up in my neighborhood. He appeared to be a mixture of collie, German shepherd, and golden retriever. Since it had been awhile since I’d had a doggie companion, I was considering keeping him. I called the dog warden to ask if anybody had lost a similar dog. As soon as I started describing him, the dog warden got all excited and said that it sounded like Andy, a dog who had been missing from a nearby town. He told me to check to see if the dog answered by that name. Sure enough, as soon as I called out, “Here Andy!” he came running. The dog warden came to my house to pick him up and take him home. He had a photo of Andy, and it was a perfect match. I told him if it turned out not to be Andy to let me know and I’d gladly adopt him. I was sad to see him go, but happy that he was going home. Sometimes doing the right thing hurts.

I wonder if Pucky is including Gutter as one of her fans.

Don’t believe I’ve ever seen an angry Puck. I slightly upset Puck, yes. A very angry Puck, no. And such language! “toasts my cheese!” Needs a few more !!!!
