Pucky is teaching them well. Ora Zella needs no encouragement for this though. Look at that tail, the speed-swatting? And Iggy, polite swat, sweet boy. He’s trying to save everyone, kindly.
As a treat, I sometimes leave my backdoor open at night (storm door closed) with the porch light on. Then Gracie defends HER house from the various small, and not so small, flying insects. It’s much like the frantic swatting depicted by Puck and Ora Zella. Usually 30-45 minutes if enough to tire her out. Then the lights go out and the doors get closed and locked. Sara prefers watching. She’s a lover, not a fighter.
Thank you Pucky, along with helpers Ora Zella and Iggy, for keeping us safe once again! Too many times I’ve mistaken a rapid tail fanning for a tail poof, but I think it is safe to say this is a full out Ora Zella TAIL POOF!
The leaves on my tulip tree are already turning yellow and starting to drop due to drought conditions. According to my neighbor, who is a certified arborist, by this late in the season, the trees have stored up enough energy that the early leaf drop shouldn’t harm them. I hope she’s right.
First the trees fall apart. Then the sky and the clouds break into tiny pieces. And then the earth beneath your feet crumbles into a cloud of fragments . Finally, you yourself dissolve into dust.
I gotcha’d Meimei in August 2008. The first time she saw falling leaves that’s exactly how she looked — she thought the sky was falling and she was gonna save me!
Good morning everyone! 96.7 FM The Buzz here – hey listeners check out the Big Pink House to see something really bizarre. For some reason, all the leaves coming down near the house are all suddenly falling away from it! Experts are scratching their heads about it but hey, you can see it if you go by.
If this was going to be turned into a 1970s epic disaster movie, panel two would be the poster.
Announcer: “In a world suddenly inundated by dangerous falling leaves, three courageous cats are all that stand between Ashaway, RI and total destruction.”
Question for long-time readers: Since Lupin referred to this as a “heart-warming tradition,” does this mean the other adult cats know the leaves are not a threat? Does Puck actually feel threatened, or is he just having fun with the little ones?
Nothing smells better than Fall. Go out into the woods on a chilly, cloudy afternoon after a rain passes. The wonderful smells of leaves and earth are fantastic. Then, on your way back home, you detect people who have their fireplaces lit—cozzy in the extreme.
Love the little arm waves! She’s about to take off. PUFFY TAIL! “polite swat”, ffft, ffft! (multiple times), and best of all, “in case of tortie, break glass!!”
I’m ashamed of me, and quite surprised by the Orb. Two years ago this date, an extraordinary woman left us and it took me until 9/11 to note what hadn’t been acknowledged herein. Your Majesty Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, may you rest in peace after the amazing life you led.

“See the kitten on the wall, sporting with the leaves that fall,
Withered leaves—one—two—and three, from the lofty elder-tree!
Through the calm and frosty air, of this morning bright and fair . . .
—But the kitten, how she starts;
Crouches, stretches, paws, and darts!"

Iggy: You may need to swat them, but be sure to be polite.
Ora Z: Or not.

I am not throwing away my swat!
I am not throwing away my swat!
Hey yo I’m just like a tortie
I’m young, scrappy and sporty
And I am not throwing away my swat!
Pucky teaching us just like we’re in college
I prob’ly shouldn’t brag but dang, I amaze and astonish
Problem is I got a lot of brains but no polish
I’ll always holler just to be heard, with every word I drop knowledge
I’m a kitty in the rough, a shiny piece of coal,
Tryna reach my goal, my jump and reach unimpeachable
Only a little cat but my mind is older
These New England falls gettin’ colder and colder
Every curtain, every couch, each advantage
I have learned to manage, I have four paws to brandish
I walk this house famished
The plan is to swat these leaves into a pile
But dang it’s getting dark so let my name make you smile
I am the O-R A- and then Z-E
L-L-A and meant to be
A kitty free who runs independently
