Puck The Protector

Aww Ora Zella. We can see that if Puck ever takes a break from defending us from the Autumn leaves we will always be in the bestest paws.

As a treat, I sometimes leave my backdoor open at night (storm door closed) with the porch light on. Then Gracie defends HER house from the various small, and not so small, flying insects. It’s much like the frantic swatting depicted by Puck and Ora Zella. Usually 30-45 minutes if enough to tire her out. Then the lights go out and the doors get closed and locked. Sara prefers watching. She’s a lover, not a fighter.

Thank you Pucky, along with helpers Ora Zella and Iggy, for keeping us safe once again! Too many times I’ve mistaken a rapid tail fanning for a tail poof, but I think it is safe to say this is a full out Ora Zella TAIL POOF!

The leaves on my tulip tree are already turning yellow and starting to drop due to drought conditions. According to my neighbor, who is a certified arborist, by this late in the season, the trees have stored up enough energy that the early leaf drop shouldn’t harm them. I hope she’s right.

First the trees fall apart. Then the sky and the clouds break into tiny pieces. And then the earth beneath your feet crumbles into a cloud of fragments . Finally, you yourself dissolve into dust.

Only Puck can save you from this doom.

Avoid New England in the Autumn?

I gotcha’d Meimei in August 2008. The first time she saw falling leaves that’s exactly how she looked — she thought the sky was falling and she was gonna save me!

Kits, please note. The others aren’t doing it. OK, IGGY take note. Ora Zella just wants to hit things.

For some reason, all the leaves coming down near the house are all suddenly falling away from it! Experts are scratching their heads about it but hey, you can see it if you go by.

Swats em until they is leaves you and goes away eh.

You just has to beleaves in yourself that you can does it.

And remembers to paws before you leaves.

If this was going to be turned into a 1970s epic disaster movie, panel two would be the poster.

Question for long-time readers: Since Lupin referred to this as a “heart-warming tradition,” does this mean the other adult cats know the leaves are not a threat? Does Puck actually feel threatened, or is he just having fun with the little ones?

Nothing smells better than Fall. Go out into the woods on a chilly, cloudy afternoon after a rain passes. The wonderful smells of leaves and earth are fantastic. Then, on your way back home, you detect people who have their fireplaces lit—cozzy in the extreme.

Mind the window, Ora Zella! The Woman will not be happy if you break it.

No, do not break glass! It seems Ora Zella has a knack for leaf swatting, though.
