Why does the school bus look like the one prisoners are ferried in, in the movie Shawshank Redemption?

Calvin seems to be in the same boat as the prisoners… School is jail for Calvin and the bus takes him there!!

“Maybe the school buses all froze up! Maybe the principal can’t get out of his driveway!” You’re telling tales out of school, Calvin, but getting out of school is the ‘principal’ thing! Hobbes more likely would tell ‘tails’ out of school.

As innovative as Calvin is I’m sure he’ll figure out something to close the school and come back home. Perhaps he can help a water pipe freeze and break.

What? At six years old, as at every other time, I LOVED going to school (Calvin’s personality, Susie’s motivation). But admittedly, I also liked getting off from school due to snow days. It was slogging through March gales, April showers and other muck on foot to elementary school that I hated.

Weather for school, not whether for school. :)

Calvin is lucky–when I went to school, I(along with most of my classmates had to walk. My walk was about a mile regardless of the weather except when we had ice storms and the power was off. Very seldom did we get enough snow for the ‘power’s at be’ to close the school.

Only an inch of snow is totally crushing. Where I grew up, you wouldn’t even know it had snowed by the time school was out. Not even any slush left.

sorry calvin, maybe monday there will be enough snow so you can get a snow day.

when i lived in orange county n.y. an inch of snow would mean a 2 hour delay, 3” would be enough for a snow day. but our town was all hills and the buses couldn’t safely transport the kids it also meant i’d have a day off too

If that happened, I bet the teacher would manage to take him home somehow, no teacher can stand more than six hours of Calvin

“Snow Day” which is a statement used to indicate the school is closed on account of too much snow is a “Misnomer” The law says you have to be in school so many hours/ days and having a so called snow day only means you will have a make-up school day later in the year. But OH what a fun misnomer it is!

the older school busses looked lijke that. newer models are all flat in front.

Many private groups and gov’t agencies purchase form the same agencies, so yes the school bus would look the same.

    City mouse, country mouse…

When I was a kid, a snow day meant that we had to stay home and work the farm all day. In the snow and cold. And Dad never took recess. It was up at dawn, work through till lunch and then back at it till sundown. And we knew better than to complain. We just looked forward to being back in that nice warm classroom, pushing a light little pencil around rather than a shovel, rake or pitchfork.

    Country mice hate snow days.

@bandz, a mob boss once said his numbers game was much better than any state lottery. Most lotteries seem to have about a 45% payout (they pay 45 cents for every dollar they take in), and the IRS knows about the big winnings, so you have to pay taxes. With the mob, the payout was more like 80%, and no taxes to pay…
