6:30 that’s not day! That is the dark, hidden in between world populated by faeries and goblins that starts a good 3 hours before day starts. Only the insane or the very brave allow the light of this ephemeral world to fall upon their skin. Beware you early risers you put your minds… nay your very lives at risk by this foolish behaviour! :D

    Morning everyone… it’s 6:40am here… what have I done!

When I was a child, I had a tent to share with my sister, but my parents had their own tent. And when I went camping with my children, they had a tent for them as well. Makes things much easier.

Well it’s now 3:43 AM here in League City. There’s nothing like getting a jump on the day and easing your way into daylight.

Good Morning, Marg, Mike & ♠Lonewolf♠!

It is frustrating to be the early riser in a late-rising family. That’s my life exactly. It’s not bad most days because you get your quiet time (I’m usually up by around 4:00). But on vacation when you’re sharing hotel or tent space, it’s murder.

DreamScourage, my body wakes up around 5:00 daily. This includes the Satudays I DON”T have to wake up! Ah well. And, Puddleglum2, just because Mom and Calvin are in tents doesn’t mean Dad has to be that “in-tense” about fishing in the morning!

Linda Arney, I knew I should have said it myself! I agree with you. But you and Dad could go together since you enjoy it. ‘Canoe’ imagine that, ‘oar’ not? There would be something fishy about it, though, since Dad is (kind of) married. Do you have any pupils like Calvin, or are you teaching older children? Have a rejuvenating weekend if you need it!

That idiot Dad ( or is it moron Dad) is right for a change. If you don’t see the sun rise, you’ve missed half the day. Do you think God may have made day and night for a purpose? Watching Leno was not in His plan. Using $600 worth of tackle to caught a $3 fish was. No wonder the greatest theologians were men.

One of the joys of camping, IMNSHO, is not having to abide by any schedule other than your own.

Which means, if you want to sleep in, you do. If you want to get up at the unholy crack of dawn and go fishing, you do. If you want to put peanut butter in the sleeping bag of the guy who thinks everyone should be up fishing at the unholy crack of dawn, you do…

nighthawks, If this were a hunting trip, are you saying they might ‘rifle’ dear old dad’s gear?

If this were a hunting trip, Dad would be saying “good morning, deer”, instead of “good morning, dear”! …and they would be intense, also.

My “natural wake-up time is about 9:30 AM Central Daylight Time - or, the last hour before I was born. (10:37 AM CDT). This holds true regardless of what the actual time zone I’m in says is the correct time - witness I’m up at 7:30 AM when in Tucson… HOWEVER - when “in the wild”, so to speak, I get up with the sun… Go figure!

INFP. Dad’s gotta be INFP. Meek guy most of the time, but not when he’s in the mood to impose his personal values and “character-building” on all and sundry in the neighborhood.

Actually, he reminds me of someone I know - also INFP - who thankfully isn’t so extreme.

Calvin, on the other hand, reminds me of me at my crankiest: ENFP.

Mom? Best guess is INFJ, like my sister.

It’s kind of a pity, if I’m right. They really could have some wonderful togetherness on the deep temperamental level, if they only understood and respected how each other thought and interacted with other people.

The link section “Personality Types” on my blog will tell you more…

Thankfully my husband’s not much of a fisherman but when he is, I’ve always made it very clear that whatever he does with his catch is up to him … if he wants to fish for fun then throw it back, great. But if he wants to eat it, then he’s got to be the one to kill it, clean it, cook it, then clean up afterwards. I might eat it but I don’t want anything else to do with it. (As you can probably tell, I’m not much of a fish person/eater!)

My dad was always up at the crack of dawn. He would go out on the front porch with his coffee mug, sit and sip, and watch the sun rise all by himself. He savored each new day of life.

PaRoWe makes a good point.. Haven’t there been times when Calvin was up and in trouble before his parents got up? I’ve had the feeling the last few days that Dad might be enjoying his quiet time alone, although he does wish his family appreciated nature like he does.

Some of us just naturally wake up early. I always have. 4:00 is my time, and if I lie in bed longer, it becomes physically uncomfortable. I get up, sit in the quiet with my coffee, walk the dog, go to the gym, and read GoComics before anyone else can bother me!

Calvin needs to switch families with Dennis Mitchell for a day. Calvin would stick the momma’s carrots up his nose and pretend to be a walrus so she’d never try to cook them again, and Dennis would wake the Dad up at 2 A.M. wanting to fish before him.
