I think, God let a small crack, were that can go in who havn’t been always good, but are not bad through and through, normal people, for God is good, and he has a heart for them!!!

Sounds like Calvin needs to switch to a different denomination. He should study the Protestant Reformation. Martin Luther, and the apostle Paul of the Bible, taught that one cannot earn eternal life by doing good works, and that it is impossible for one to live a blameless life. Heaven can only be attained as a free gift from God to those who believe.We now return you to your regularly-scheduled comic strip.

@DHA DHA: 18 years ago in May I was staying at a guesthouse in Bangcock. It was broiling hot. I just walked into a luxury hotel as if I owned it. No one was using the pool and I swam in it until I felt more refreshed.

Calvin asked a good question. Many believe that good works alone will somehow grant them access into heaven and that bad people will not be allowed in. How many good works is enough? As much as or more than your neighbor or some famous person? Who is the scorekeeper? Who sets the standard? It is not by works that we are granted eternal life, but it is by faith in God and embracing the atoning sacrifice of Christ. I can’t prove there is a heaven, nor can anyone on earth prove there is not a heaven, so I’d rather err on the side of faith in God.

This has some logic, Calvin!!

The only heaven for me would already be populated with all the dogs and cats I have known.

@HobbesHow can you say that it is impossible for one to live a blameless life?I can already think of many blameless lives.And of what use is an eternal life?

It’s not obey parents. It’s honor. There’s a difference. If your parent told you to murder, you wouldn’t have to do it. And as for the bible being contradictory, only for those who don’t understand. In the New Testament a new covenant was born. The old ways changed, not completely, but mostly.

Will Calvin have a bath in Purgatory?

If evil is in the world because God wanted us to be able to CHOOSE to be good, then did He decide that free will was overrated when He created Heaven?

EARTH is the place where you’re “allowed” to be bad.

Everyone in heaven willingly will worship, praise and obey God.

Be yourself, Calvin.But just be prepared to pay the ultimate price for it.LOL xxx

@Thirdguy: Come to think of it, Firstguy and Secondguy had a similar misconception about me. At least I haven’t had to debunk the “I am Bill Watterson” myth recently. (I hope Mythreesons is still out there somewhere and doing well.) Hobbes and I have some things in common, but one major difference is that he lives with a Calvinist.

You can most certainly honor someone without obeying them. I love and honor my parents but if they told me to quit my job because they felt it was too dangerous, how exactly would I be dishonoring them by not quitting? The two terms are not synonomous no matter how much you would like them to be in order to elevate your point.

Which is one reason that Jesus has such harsh words about the hypocrites who are goody-goods who judge others.

The ideal of Jesus is that we become actually good by learning to love as Jesus does.

I know that. I didn’t say the Old Testament is suppose to be ignored now, merely that some things have changed, such as, you no longer need to make a sacrifice to be forgiven or that you can’t do any kind of work on the sabbath. Also by honor I believe it means, do nothing to bring dishonor unto them.

Jesus indeed affirms that the Old Testament Law is holy in all its intended purposes of marking the Jewish people as God’s unique people and pointing to the God-image originally planted within us. The PENALTY (stonings, etc.) was paid by Christ on the Cross. THAT is grace.
