My mother’s old stereo played 16, 33, 45, and 78. (This was back in the late 60s) We played the Chipmunks at 16 to hear the voices at normal speed then we would play Johnny Cash at 78 to make him sound like a Chipmunk. It was such fun.
You don’t call the orphanage first, Dad. You wait till night, take him to another county, and drop him off. In Calvin’s case, you may have to tie his leash to the railing.

The Orphanage: Sorry, we can’t take him. Technically, he’s not an orphan.
codycab almost 3 years ago
The way they were dancing, I’d never guess they were playing classical music.
Sugar Bombs 95 almost 3 years ago
According to Bill, this is one that got the poses ripped off a lot for illegal merch.
Also, you can tell even really early on he was trying to escape the limitations of the typical Sunday format.

Well, at least it’s classical. Probably with lots of drums and horns.

Good thing Calvin is only 6. His ears can cope with 40 kHz.

Heck, even then, turntables that played 78 RPM were dinosaurs.
M2MM almost 3 years ago
I imagine my niece’s son being like this. He is a devil of a child.
Kaputnik almost 3 years ago
Our turntables when I was growing up would do 33⅓, 45, and 78 rpm. We never had any 45s, though, and I never saw an actual 78 rpm record.
Never thought of trying this.

Verdi “Requiem” at 78 RPM would rock!!
nuncanunca almost 3 years ago
I thought about doing this as a kid, but was always afraid I’d damage the records somehow by doing so.

Just return him to Kmart for store credit.

Maybe not classical, but “Tiger Rag” is a classic. Speed it up and you’ll break the sound barrier.

Does anyone still have a turntable that plays 78s?

There were and still are some amazing musical recordings on 78 rpm records.

Yeah… but I wonder if they’d have a “no deposit, no return” policy.

None of the poses are repeated. In fact, none of the notes are repeated, either.

Keep on dancin’ through the daylight
Greet the mornin’ air with song
No ones’s noticed, but the band’s all pack and gone
Was it ever there at all?
But they keep on dancin’
Come on children, come on children
Come on clap your hands

I haven’t had a 78 turntable since the 70’s. My SL-1200 only does 33 and 45.
