What is the point of memorizing the date of the Boston Tea Party? Ignoring the fact that Calvin is 6 years old, the reasons to learn about the Boston Tea Party are about why it happened, what led up to it, what happened after it and later consequences of it, the date of it.

My granddaughter was bored with history in regular classes, but when moved to advanced classes, she loved them. She even dragged me over to her last history teacher at her graduation to meet him as one of her favorite teachers. The difference between the two was regular classes were about memorizing dates, names and places, but the advanced classes were about interlocking stories.

We all get excited about shared universes in books\movies\tv shows interlocking but ignore our own shared universe.

My eighth grade Oklahoma History teacher was the absolute epitome of boredom. I thought that OK’s history was just nothing. Fast forward many years, I picked up a newer OK History book and was fascinated by what I read.

A good teacher teaches. A bad teacher lectures.

Dates can exist whether or not time is linear. A date is a unique identifier for a defined area centered around a point in time. Because dates are assigned sequentially according to a bizarre algorithm they bolster the illusion of sequential time.
