The burglars probably threatened Hobbes, telling him, “You saw NOTHING!”

Betcha Mannix could get info from Calvin. Unlike most TV PI’s, Mannix is great with kids.

The reason that the burglars left the beds was because of the monsters that live under them…….

Gee, given similar circumstances, I don’t believe I could recite my TV’s serial number either. Is that a new list I should create – tracking the serial numbers of all my possessions – just in case?

A detective (as identified by the suit rather than a uniform) for a burglary is a blast from the past. I have experienced four burglaries; none were investigated. But I forget: this is a cartoon.

I remember when a tv was a major furniture purchase. Now the cost of a television is less than a decent pair of shoes.

Television gone too??? You would think they would have to pay someone to take their 1960s TV. It is a good idea to not only keep a list of serial numbers of major items but also a video for insurance purposes; even better keep a second copies in a bank safe deposit or relatives house in case the originals are destroyed in fire/storm.

I think you have to handle Calvin on your own Dad as Mom must be in the kitchen knocking back some vino and a Valium to calm down. Cue up “Mother’s Little Helper”.

The insurance adjuster could have been kinder to the little boy with the helpful tiger. Calvin offering up Hobbes’s help was a lovely thing to do, and it would have made Calvin feel better.

Didn’t even know that TVs have a serial number. I certainly don’t have any record of mine. This comic may have been drawn before flat screen TVs were a thing. So carrying one of those big old boxes would not have been easy.

If, perchance, this arc leads to the officer taking Calvin and Hobbes to the station in the interests of community relations, say, and lets them look at some mugshot books…and Calvin tells the officer that Hobbes has pointed out two people who then turn out to be responsible for several break ins in the area, I have some serious rethinking to do about this strip.

That’s not a weirdo. It’s a precocious kid being cute about his toy tiger. Stupid detective. He should play into it and as someone else said, let Hobbes give a witness statement!

So, the burglars stole the TV set and a number of other items, but Hobbes “scared them off”? What nonsense. Some “scaring off”. It’s interesting to see Calvin go from sad lonely little boy to a boy full of false braggadocio.

I had a “watch cat”. I’m sure if I had been burglarized she wouldn’t do anything foolish like attack the burglar. But later, in the lineup, it would be the pointed paw and the “meow” of identification. :)

Who would happen to have the serial number of their TV? These days it just might be possible to find the SN for a big-ticket item that you purchased through a reputable online retailer, but when this strip was running, no way.
