No - Pab is referring to HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY, by Douglas Adams. But WHY?

Don’t worry about it. Just remain in Deep Thought.

One of my fave book series. Anyone up for breakfast at Milliways? I’d like to get an autograph from Hotblack Desiato. (Though I understand he may be spending a year dead for tax purposes.)

Oh, and whatever you do, don’t order the steak!

Oh, and the answer IS “42,” but evidence suggests the question is bollocks.

    @MorganZ: “But WHY?”

    42.

Nope. Doesn’t work. Try another one.

I was never a Douglas Adams fan (apologies to those who are) so that must be why I’m so confused right now … as opposed to all those other times I’m so confused.

actually the question ended up being “what is 6x8?” made all the more funny because it’s wrong.

And now, because you folks demanded it… (or, at least, suggested it….)

I’m pleased to announce that I’m now taking pre-orders for MEET THE ROYALS, the omnibus collection reprinting the first three books in a larger, easier to read format, along with 25 pages of strips never before seen in print.

The book is 240 pages and goes on sale April 1st for $18.99. Direct price from my webstore will be $15.99. Pre-order price is $14.99.

The first 50 pre-orders (just like with the fourth book) will be individually signed and numbered, but this time around will also include a doodle by me to prove that I can draw (although I do so badly).

    Pre-order here: http://bit.ly/6Vb3Wy

Here’s an alternative take on Deep Thought’s question and the scrabble grab answer.

Arthur randomly grabs the tiles to spell “What do you get when you multiply six by nine.”

    Which of course is fifty-four.

But in base thirteen “forty two” = four times thirteen = fifty two (base 10) plus two = fifty four. (base 10)

It all depends how many fingers you have.

I read this speculation in the “Original Radio Scripts.” notes, written by Douglas Adams. Douglas got a letter explaining this from a fan.

THHGTTG series stared life as a radio play back in the 70’s. I think the “Original Radio Scripts” was republished recently.

As long as I can be assured that your “MEET THE ROYALS” book doesn’t incorporate any Vogon poetry, I’m (pre)ordering my copy today!!!

    Thanks Pab! :)

Doriation: Only some poetry of my own and a few classics from others in “Meet The Royals.” No Vogons.

I miss Douglas Adams so much, such a great satirist. I’ll always love the great lines from Zaphod:

“If there’s anything bigger than my ego around here I want it caught and shot now!”

“Geez, you guys are so unhip it’s a wonder your bums don’t fall off.”

Yes, mine was Tuesday, (thanks, Pab) but I did not get signed in until Wednesday and my avatar would not load so the site had me send it for them to load, so you can all see my pretty face eventually ;-> I previously was reading here for many years but never signed in -(I only signed in to Comics.com when it was required there.) Having input to the strip from the readers is a fun idea, so I hope there will be more. My 70+ years have tons of crazy stories.

vldazzle: I always consider “V-Mail” letters for printing if I can come up with a good punchline based on them. And I may make “Dear Auntie Majesty” a semi-regular feature, running it every few months or so.
