Hmmm maybe Puddles will help Shannon change her attitude. I bet he crawls over to Shannon and licks her face and looks at her with his woeful eyes….Ya know, once a little child has been hurt or shunned or emotionally abused, it takes a long time for them to trust someone again. It appears that Shannon has been ignored and unloved all her young life. I doubt that Toni is the mom. She wouldn’t be so quick to leave her with a babysitter…even if it’s Luann…and Luann is not a good babysitter, either.

With three arcs pending – we need Toni & Brad to fill in some of the blanks pretty soon…

Tonight I agree with you briatollah, I have long believed that Shannon is Ann Eiffel’s daughter…on the other hand, would a mother sue her OWN child for biting her?

i think you might have something there… Toni is her mom, and will make Brad an instant dad. Luann doesn’t realize that she’s dealing with her future niece.

I do believe ‘Poor puzzles’ is the only compassionate thing Shannon’s ever said. Pity it didn’t last 2 seconds.

Her father’s name is Jonah Daytona. Her mother’s name (I think) has never been mentioned.

Gang, let’s remember that Luann is NOT the MOTHER! She’s a babysitter – and she had the kid dumped on her at the last minute. She’s not responsible for how the kid was raised or for Shannon being a brat. She does not have the LEGAL right to hit or spank the kid. I bet a lot of the folks mocking her would fall apart if they had to deal with Shannon.

I’m not sure where the suggestion that Toni is Shannon’s mom came from. . As much as Luann tends to delve into certain real-life issues, I’m pretty sure incest is not one of them; Toni is Shannon’s aunt. And poor Luann still has a lot to learn about six-year-olds, especially dysfunctional ones.

Either the kid is a psychopath or Greg is bad at writing for children.

I certainly hope Toni is willing to spank that stupid little brat child. Kids everywhere are reading this now thinking it’s ok to act like this and say and do whatever the hell they want because the adults will not punish them. I suspect Shannon is adopted and being raised by a single father. We’ll find out later that Ann Eiffel gave birth to a child out of wedlock and gave her up for adoption.

TRUST me! In the days of my youth (the 50’s), this would NOT have happened, or at least only ONCE! In 2 or 3 days when Shannon was finally able to sit down again…………..

Maybe Shannon used to eat lead paint chips. That could account for her stunted growth and development.

One hour in my place and she’d be a different child…the board of education would meet the seat of knowledge….and having her stand for awhile (out of necessity) might do some good….NOT child abuse by any means…just good ole fashioned discipline!!!

Like I said yesterday. The child needs to have her bottom paddled in the worst possible way! I think Puddles should give her a lttle “nibble.” :(

My long time friend had a daugher who was always dumped onto someone to take care of, but this daughter turned out to be a wonderful person. Other kids are given everything and showered with love, and turn out to be horrible human beings. Unfortunately, there are times when no matter what you do for a kid, they are just bad. But, sometimes, kids turn out truly amazing no mater how they are treated. One of life’s frustrating mysteries.

Love little puddles – pets are so wonderful – but cannot defend themselves from flying debris.

Too confusing, early in this arc Shannon shows the ability to compromise, suggesting herself that they can watch television and do laundry at the same time. Now she is a little sociopath. Weird.

Hmm I guess someone flagged my post last night. As I said previously, there has been some discussion that Toni might actually be the mother.

I’m thinking this kid could use a baseball bat. Sort of like in the movie Scarface. Luann could do an Al Pacino on her.

Wow, what patience! I would have been hard pressed not to have given that little brat a good spanking. I guess it’s not PC.

Okay, everyone agrees Shannon is a brat. But she has not not necessarily been spoiled. She could, for instance, feel sympathy for Puddles while at the same time be worried about her root beer. Young children ARE selfish—they need to be to survive. I have seen one possibility of “child rearing behavior” that fits this situation. Anyone think her father is into cooking and nutrition?? I don’t. He probably has a bunch of snacks and frozen meals handy (along with leftover Thai.) He figures Shannon is old enough to use a microwave, so why would be bother? As long as she stays away from his beer and drugs, he’s satisfied. Shannon simply forages for herself, She doesn’t ask permission, or she’d starve before the next shopping expedition. The question of permission has never come up, she just tries to get SOMETHING before her dad eats it.

Beat. Her. Ass.

Strangely, she was called Toni’s cousin earlier in the strip, and some years before, she was the niece of “Mrs Lewis” mother of Lindy, the baby that Luann used to sit when she was 13. So, Mrs Lewis was her Mother’s sister and apparently, Jonah Daytona’s sister in law.

Back a few months ago, someone surmised that Shannon was the daughter of Ann Eiffel. Someone else stated that it would be unlikely because Ann was in Japan at the time in which Shannon was in the process of conception/birth. All I know is what I read in the papers— Toni’s brother (Jonah Daytona) copulated with an unnamed woman and Shannon was the result!

Kid needs a beating.

“Shannon will come out to join her out of curiousity & boredom.” Maybe… I know we always felt nervous when we had a child around and silence descended. They can cause a lot of mischief even when they are just satisfying their curiosity.

I’m sorry, but beating a child, WHATEVER you call it, teaches one of 2 things: be afraid of people in power because it’s okay for the stong to hurt the weak or there’s no need to control your emotions because if you act on your impulses you get what you want. Yes every child is different and a swat on the behind, BUT NEVER IN ANGER, is reasonable in some situations..BUT the lack of empathy this child shows is a warning sign of a psycopath.Wanna make a kid with pscyopathic tendencies turn into a serial killer instead of a CEO? Hit ’em.

Actually, i just read it and he says that it IS the same Shannon, saying only that she isn’t Shannon “Lewis” (And why would she have her Aunt’s married name to begin with)… of course, it’s possible that Mrs Lewis’ sister wasn’t actually Shannons mother, but, rather a woman that hooked up with Shannon’s Dad for a time.

HAHAHAHAHA!

No one’s going to mention that the girl Luann sat for many years ago (who bears remarkable resemblance to the current Shannon) also called the dog ‘Puzzles’?
