Tarry Plaguer, in the original War of the Worlds book, there’s a British Navy ironclad called The Thunderchild which succeeds in destroying at least one Martian war machine.
The Thunderchild’s attack on the Martians is seen in Pendragon Pictures’ 2005 film, “The War of the Worlds,” which should not be confused with the Tom Cruise film from the same year, nor the direct-to-video “War of the Worlds” which also came out in 2005.
This is Dick Tracy. Of course something bad is going to happen. Gertie is a tough old bird and if somebody tries something on her, well—- the last time something bad happened to the bad guys. Something to do with bear traps.
I sure hope JR. will not be losing this wife the way he lost MM with a car bomb…I would hate to have to wait another 40 years to see Sparkle come back again too.
It may be too late to comment. We don’t arise early in my house. But having lived in the South for many years (I know, I know. DT isn’t set in the South) I know that grits are often served as a side dish at every meal: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
I am thinking that either Measles will show up at the Plenty home to hide out, or Sparkle will run into him while out buying grits and become a hostage. Either way, trouble is ahead in Tracy-Ville.
It’s always great to see B.O. and Gravel, I have always always loved the characters. Nice to see Sparkle too. While I know this is a minor issue, I wish the colorist would leave Sparkle, Moon Maid and Honeymoon’s hair platinum, or white. (The Same as Gravel’s). None of them had yellow hair in their original art form. I think the platinum color adds to their attractiveness. I read this strip on another newspapaper also, because they release the next day’s strip before gocomics. They do the same thing, yellow hair vrs the platinum. Just saying.
Good morning to Vista Bill, when he gets here today, and all the DT fans.. Gotta love today’s discussion totally involving today’s strip. Thanks Flight Suit and others for the WOTW background and such. It’s new to me.
Ummm, doesn’t anyone on here remember that this is how Moon Maid went to her demise? She had to run to the store during a party..and then BOOM! she was blown up in her car.
Grits may be a “breakfast” cereal, but they can be a side dish to any meal. (And I’m not even from the American south—actually I was born a lot further south than that!)
If you are gonna eat grits be sure to use real grits. Those instant are ok in a rush but not as good as the slow cooked real thing. You should also use lots and lots of butter.
Then throw in some eggs and cured country ham with red eyed gravy. Maybe some fresh made buttermilk biscuits with some jelly or jam and you have a meal for a king…breakfast or dinner it is great.
You could also add sausage gravy or sawmill gravy for the biscuits to finish off this meal. Yum yum….
I don’t know if this is “deja vu all over again,” or if Joe and Mike are just doing this for the tension. I felt a chill when I read this because I remembered a very similar conversation that turned out to be Moon Maid’s last.
Could there be a new colorist on the strip?Gertie’s hair is shaded with blue and – gasp – there’s even shading on Sparkle’s face in the first panel, picking up on Shane’s colors in the Sunday strips.Nicely done, GoComics!

And I thought it was a product endorsed by a certain pro wrestler we might remember. Patty Cure was a good promoter you know…

Here in New Mexico, we like grits with green chile and cheese and maybe topped with some red chile. That’ll wake you right up!

Measles may have a close encounter with Gertie’s skillet.

Oh come now — Gertie run out of grits??!! Perish the thought. I guess our writers just needed a little plot device. (And grits for dinner? – YUM!)

Thunderchild Chew? Could it be a War of the Worlds reference? Or am I putting too much into it?

Fall is in the air; the leaves outside the door in panel 3 give a nice touch as well.

I have a feeling that the newly returned Mysta(?) is not pleased that Sparkle has taken her place in Junior’s life and heart.

You’re missing out. Salmon with grits and shrimp with cheesy grits are two of my favorite dinners. And I’m a New Yorker.
