Tiffany: "Back in the day, didn't men used to open door for ladies?" Crystal: "Yeah. Even threw their capes over mud puddles" Tiffany: "Weird" Crystal: "Is it? Or is it respectful and courteous? Maybe we're missing out" Tiffany: "You gonna make Knute start wearing a cape?" Crystal: "Actually, he'd probably enjoy that"

Crystal’s sleeves are back!

Tiff acknowledges that Crystal can control Knute, tantamount to acknowledging that he is Crystal’s guy, that they really are an item….

I remember a scene from a movie where the hero laid his cape across a puddle and the lady stepped on the cape and completely disapeared in the hole.

It’s all about Chivalry. Protect the woman from the other guy. Demonstrate your dominance over her. Open doors so she’ll know where to go, hold the chair so she’ll know where to sit, buy her giftsso she’ll know her provider, massage her feet…Wait, this isn’t going right

That was Ringo in “A Hard Day’s Night” — not really heroic, but entertaining.

enjoyment over wearing a cape goes without saying, why do you think superdooperman and battyman do it?
drewpamon about 12 years ago
It’s not about dominating a woman it’s about respecting her and showing that respect through action.

Since I am temporarily (for the last four weeks and now at least couple more – sigh) on one crutch, I have noticed people will rush to the door to open it for me (even the electric eye ones), random people, not just the baggers, will carry my groceries for me, and one man pushed ahead of me at the check-out just to empty my cart so I did not have to maneuver around it. I even had an eight-year-old follow me around the store so she could get things off the bottom shelves for me, and her dad followed suit to get the boxes from the top shelves for me. I found people are pretty good overall, especially if it makes them feel good. And I have a lot of interest in the karma bank to pay back from all this attention. I am a woman who will hold the door open for the next in line, and thank whoever (male or female) held the door open for me – it’s just plain courtesy, no matter where it comes from.

Oh,HERE we GO!
1st: Crystal thinks she has a “Re-la-tion-ship” with Knute-Boy.NOW: She WANTS to Cha-nge Him!
Why BOTHER, Crys?
Why not just CLUB Knuter ’cross the head, grab him by his hair and DRAG Him off to Your Cave???

I think I’m really starting to like the Crystal character

Someone is finally figuring it out!! Way to go Crystal. I live on a guy’s training campus with my family on staff, and they teach the guys here to be gentlemen. It really is worth it!

Yeah. She’s getting into him. She kind of likes that he would like the cape.

I would love to wear a cape and not look crazy

Or, it could be a much more innocent and simple origin: How about the idea that they were modeled after circus performers’ costumes? And, for Batman specifically, and referring to the cape and mask in particular, Bob Kane is on record that he got the idea from Zorro.

Go back to the old days in the male dominant world where women are nonpersons? No way! Open the door if you want to or not, just show some respect.
lecrenb about 12 years ago
If he wears a cape will he be able to fly and leap tall buildings at a single bound?
I’m sure he’d try that as well…
junemmoffatt about 12 years ago
Maybe it’s mood lipstick, which goes on very different from what it looks like.

Cool lipgloss applying ladies!!

I’m with you, ncalifgirl58. No way would I want to turn the clock back to those more “chivalrous” times. Actually, I am disappointed in the Crystal character. This doesn’t befit her at all.

I always show the ladies chivalry, and I have never been snubbed for doing so.
hblessing about 12 years ago
It is all how chivalry is done. My husband opens doors for me not because he wants to show me where to go or because he thinks I can’t but because he wants to show me little ways that he loves me. He pulls out chairs for me and scoots me in for the same reason. He will ask me what I think I want to eat at dinner and then order for me showing he LISTENED to me and REMEMBERS how I like things. We both constantly do little things for each other to show how much we think about the other and care about them. I feel really special when he does these things for me.
And the coolest part is since I have a degenerative disease and struggle sometimes opening things or cutting things – I never feel like he feels sorry for me or thinks I cannot do something – instead I feel like when he offers to cut up my meat or open my soda it is because he cares and I don’t feel disabled but feel special and loved. By the way I am only 40. I teach my son to do these things too and he is 17 years old. I think showing respect for women is so important when I hear lyrics degrading them.
More than that though in a world where people seem to judge how much someone cares by how big or expensive something is – I think it is so nice to show how much you care on a regular basis with little things – often things that do not cost anything but a little time and compassion.

I think this is what Crystal and Tiffany really bond over and what keeps them friends: their mutual love of cosmetics.

Only if he wears his underwear on the outside.
tegm about 12 years ago
Again, if it’s so nice why can’t women do the same for men? Why does gender have to come into it?

Will someone volunteer to go back and count all the panels wherein Crystal and Tiffany are dealing with makeup?
