Rick: You're at Warren Headquarters? How did you get there, Joanie? Joanie: Taxi... Rick: Someone snuck you out and put you in a taxi? Who? Alex: Why focus on the accomplice? We'd never find her! Rick: I'll be right over.
Popular vote: Romney 51% Obama 47%Electoral Votes: Romney 290Obama 248If I’m right, please feel free to bask in my genius until Friday. After Friday I will no longer post on Gocomics.I need a year off from politics. Also, Nate Silver will be out of a job on Wednesday.
I have never been so pessimistic about a presidential campaign since Richard Nixon ran ( both times ).Between the blatant voter suppression, the super pac monies, the horrific storm, Sandy, the looming crises in Iran and ongoing one in Afghanistan, I dread the outcome should Romney actually get elected. I am no Liberal, nor a Democrat, but I fear what could happen will happen.I pray that Silver is right and you are smoking the wrong hookah !
Because of the obvious, and well documented, voter suppression, and intimidation, NO republican who wins by less the 5% will be considered legitimate by half of all Americans…Filibuster City baby……
We will have no way of knowing this, because they will never admit it, but based on past elections, I have found the ones who complain the loudest about our government, don’t vote !I bet that is true amongst some of the more notorious commentators on this strip. You have no right to gripe about the election if you didn’t exercise your right as a citizen and vote !
86% of Canadians would vote Obama if they could vote. Most of the world — 81% — would vote for Barack Obama, according to a new MSN poll, which surveyed 570,000 people in 36 countries.
>86% of Canadians would vote Obama if they could vote. Most of the world — 81% — would vote for Barack Obama, according to a new MSN poll, which surveyed 570,000 people in 36 countries.
Most of the rest of the world still can’t quite believe the US elected Bush Jnr twice…can’t quite believe that in a country with so many talented individuals the GOP has such GodAwful presidential candidates.
Unfortunately, while the US may not care much about the rest of the world, the rest of the world has to care about the US because of its out-of-proportion impact and ability to totally muck us all up if you get it wrong.
Throwing datas without a source is a waste of time or a trickery. All the surveys put Obama in slight advantage in popular votes and in fair advantage in most toss-up states. I’d rather rely on them than on your imagination.
I want to apologize for the intemperate remarks I made yesterday. I went through and deleted them all.
LWP, Obama may well lose the popular vote, but he will win the Electoral College vote, by winning 10-or-so out of 12-or-so battlegrounds. He will continue as President. But these will be so close, that with long-counts, recounts, and court challenges, we won’t know till the end of November.
I can easily understand the wish for a popular vote election. However, if we had that, do you think that the candidates would be spending their last days in Iowa, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire? They would most likely spend nearly all of their time in the 10 largest media markets. Period.
the Owners in Florida and Ohio, for example, are going to “count” the vote they want it to be. astounding to watch the Banana Republican behavior in America. stopping people from voting for the “wrong” guy. Goebbels would be proud.
@LWPNate Silver’s numbers have nothing to do with his opinion. They’re just cold hard numbers- nothing personal. And his latest numbers say that Obama has a 91.6% chance of winning the election. In science, most researchers have a higher standard and require a 95% probability of being correct before accepting their results as “facts”. But 91.6% shows a very strong “trend”. So strong, in fact, that I would be amazed if Romney won. Of course, there appears to be a little GOP “hanky panky” going on with the voting process, particularly in the state of Ohio. And if they do get away with stealing Ohio, we can’t really expect the SCOTUS to protect our democracy, since they are so intent on undermining it.
I make no predictions. I voted early by absentee ballot, as did many of my fellow Floridians. In Sarasota County alone, by today 45% of the people had already voted – either by absentee ( mail in ) or early voting. This speaks to a strong reaction of the voters to the attempts by Gov. Scott and his Republican cronies, to suppress voter’s rights and impede Democrats from voting.Knowing Florida, stay tuned for more dirty tricks from Scott & Henchmen if the State swings to Obama. It will not be pretty.
You need to be careful too, Cal. If your boy, Mitt, wins, he will break your little heart. And if he loses, you’ll have to change your name to DelusionAl. Looks like you’re toast either way.
Well, Kris Kristiekreme now has a reason to appreciate a Federal Government that is willing, able, and motivated to assist in a natural disaster. None of which describe a Romney government. He’s got a track record as Governor of Massachusetts, and it doesn’t bode well for the country.
I have long maintained that the Presidential race has always been a beauty contest. What really matters, are the local and state races, and ballot initiatives. These are the meat and potatoes of any election and are the least understood by the general populace. Those who will represent us at City Hall, the State Legislature, the County School Board and yes, the Federal House and Senate, will have far more impact on our lives than the President. These are the reason we MUST GET OUT AND VOTE !
Unfortunately it does matter. You need to have a good negotiator and strategist in the White House.Otherwise problems like the fiscal cliff sprout up. Obama should have tied the renewal of the Bush tax cuts to raising of the debt ceiling. Instead, he just rolled over and approved the Bush Tax cuts for renewal. Leaving him no leverage for dealing with an insane Republican congressional majority when he was seeking approval to raise the debt ceiling. So he then had to go along with the craziness and now we are facing a tea-party inspired slashing of gov spending that will result in another recession.
The biggest problem with voting in this country is voter suppression. This is a far greater problem than the electoral college. It is time to make voting available electronically, such as what is now happening in NJ. In the area where I live, voting is a ridiculously easy process. Down in the city, there are extremely long lines. In 2008, there were over a thousand people lined up for a tiny polling place and the polling workers got there and said that they had the wrong rolls for that particular voting place, which meant that the line went from being 4-5 hours long, to being 8-10 hours long. This should not be happening. There is no reason for this. Not in this day and age, or at least not much longer. The software should be available to make it safe for people to vote. The voting machines that we currently have have had problems too…
‘Anymore, it seems that POTUS is more and more like the British monarchy ’And that’s why I can’t wait until Congresscare is fully implemented, and I’m so happy that Congress got Osama bin Laden… Maybe now, facing no reelection, Obama will finally stop bending over for the republicans..As for the Electoral college, theoretically it’s possible an elector could vote for the other candidate, and the press talks it up in a close race, but it never happens. While I would prefer to get rid of it, when I think of having the campaign waged in my own ruby-red state, I think again.
Hey, in Oregon we’ve got vote by mail. Gives one time to ponder the issues, Keeps a physical record. Now all we need is a national popular vote for president. May somebody win with more than 5 to 4 votes, if you get my meaning.
We can finally get back to this strip being meaningless.>>It’s meaningless now. I’ve read rant after rant. Did my own fact checking, thank you DTPi, and came to my own conclusion. I voted last Thursday. I do not like either one but I VOTED. I suggest you and everyone else do so, also. >>Whoever wins, I will support and defend. I am and old Marine. I cannot do anything else. If I disagree with something done in Washington, or Raleigh, I will call the appropriate repand say so. I will alsolet it be known when I’m happy about something. If all we do is insult one another on here then we are lost. Most of us have the ability to vote if not to verbally discuss our positions.>>SO VOTE
The President has become much more powerful during the last 30 years. Executive control over Federal agencies, the power to conduct diplomacy, the power to appoint Supreme Court Justices, Commander in Chief, the power to veto bills… these things are not trivial.Even with a Congress as stubbornly opposed to the White House as this one has been, the President is the single most powerful person on the planet.
I would like to comment on a trend I noticed a few days ago. I did not go back and look at the specific person(s). The trend, both here and on Yahoo news, was to bash the poor and uneducated, who would supposedly vote for Romney. This attitude about ignorant people isexactly the same thing as Romney’s 47% remark. If you are ever so superior to these people, and show it, you really are less.
Thanks Red. I am trying to get past a wreck I as in in August, but it’s giving me time to think about what I want to do and what I am able to do.Bless you and yours.
I voted . . . and then they demanded to know my GoComics screen name, and when I gave it to them, they looked me up online, and then ripped up my ballot right in front of my eyes!
I just spent the day as a poll worker in a precinct that obviously voted against the way I think is reasonable. By far they had no clue as to where they were supposed to be for voting. Here in KY I could tell them where they were supposed to be. That would have been illegal in Ohio.
This is a useless rant at this hour, but still… On NBC and MSNBC they have been reporting that the Michigan polls close at 9 pm. They close at 8 pm. I would hope not, but this could confuse some voters into missing their chance to vote. I called our local NBC affiliate, and emailed MSNBC, but it’s too late to do any good. These are channels I would not expect to be deliberately trying to disenfranchise voters, but how could they make such a mistake?
rightisright, OleEd, Sarge, congratulations on the romney landslide! Oh, wait, Trigg hasn’t flipped the Ohio votes yet. But, but Acorn! The New Black Panthers! Benghazi! Is it too late to release my tax returns? And thanks to Sheldon, Karl and the Koch brothers for blowing all that dough.
I wish I shared your optimism. I fear, however, that out of pure spite and resentment the Congressional Thugs will just redouble their resolve to pull the house down on us all. Paul Krugman is so often so right (I mean correct…): http://tinyurl.com/beapm4n
