Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for December 02, 2012
Transcript:
Marigold: *ahem* I am the very model of a modern magical unicorn. I've information magic, and I never wear a uniform. My entrances are heralded by trumpets and a flugelhorn. I've eaten magic bagels and my horn can write in cuneiform! I make up for my lack of hands with magic ingenuity. Manipulating objects with a startling acuity. I'm also rather stunning in a way that's undeniable. To stare at me in wonder is completely justifiable! It is all true. Phoebe: I know.

I can just see this as a Pixar movie…maybe with Heather Morris as Phoebe and Naya Rivera as Marigold.

It’s a unicorn musical! Looks like she didn’t know she had an audience. Kinda like getting caught singing in the shower. Horses skip the singing and stick to dancing.

Come on, Phoebe, you’re falling down on the job. A patter song needs a chorus.

That’s from The Pirates of Penzance, an operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan. (Not to be confused with Gilbert O’Sullivan.)

When talking, Marigold never compounds her words, such as “I’m” and “I’ve”. Singing has it’s own rules of vocabulary.

Great song unicorn!

and it is the 1st and possibly only and last time Marigold has used contractions. She must respect accurate quotation of songs over proper grammatical speaking.

Turns out there are alternate pronunciations of “cuneiform,” one of which works pretty well here.I wonder if Dana would’ve thought of the flugelhorn if not for MLP:FIM.

I wondered when the readership would start filking this comic. I’m surprised it took so long.
