That was certainly the evil eye.A little home work would give you a feeling of well done when you go out later to play.Forget all that if Dad falls asleep.
Hobbes is a stuffed tiger toy in the second panel, which indicates that we aren’t looking through Calvin’s imagination. Does that mean that that’s the way Calvin’s dad actually looks?
And does this post mean I’m thinking about this too much?
I was always the kind of kid who did their homework right away — on the bus ride home, immediately after getting home from school (if I didn’t get it finished on the bus), on Friday afternoon, etc. — so that I could have the whole rest of the evening/weekend to play without having to worry about it. No “evil eye” from either one of my parents needed!
Liberals will shout ‘Child Abuse’. The parents of mass murderers will tell you that they were careful not to traumatize the future shooters with ‘discipline’.

Yeah but they won’t let me go out later to play because it’ll be dark! Daytime = playtime, evening is for homework.

@SUSAN NEWMAN said,“That’s why I have a “mezuzah” on my door.”
Larry Glick (RIP) of WBZ Radio back in the day used to say;“You’re never a looza when you keep your mezuza!”

I wonder if Peter Jackson might have seen this strip as a young boy? Can you even IMAGINE Calvin as a Hobbit? Hobbes would be… what? Samwise?

My parents’ versions of the evil eye . . . bounced when used on me. It actual threats of physical harm to head off disaster and mayhem.
