hahaha…. great line! the stories this toon prompted made me laugh. it’s good cuz today i’m going to a memorial service and this will make it all easier.
Many decades ago, there was a need to call for an ambulance for my youngest son. When I received the bill, I saw that they had charged for an “unscheduled emergency”.
While I have been divorced for close to 20 years I still get calls from a collection agency looking for my EX…. I think that it is time for a more aggressive response, anyone know an evil lawyer?
This strip isn’t so much a joke as a true statement. Even the fire-department-run paramedics will charge you a service fee for showing up at your house. If the wife is a survivor, then she is held responsible for the bill.
Richest man in town dies….In the funeral parlor, everybody stares at what had to be the most beautiful and expensive casket, Tiger Maple, silver, gold, diamonds, rubies, hand painted art on the sides….One guy looks down at him laying there, then looks at his friend as says, “Man, that’s livin’!”
“I have yet to any government service operated, or run, correctly or efficiently for more than one generation.”
I’m sure that our military and more than a few police departments, sheriff’s departments and fire departments (which can sometimes have fathers and sons serving within the same unit or chain-of-command) would vehemently disagree with you.
How can privatization be cheaper? How can you do what needs to be done more inexpensively, if it can be done at cost by the current staff? Making a profit on top of that is cheaper? Math, man. If the company does such a better job, why not just hire the manager? ..
My brother in law had a son who died at the age of 21. He owed money here and there, as many that age do. One particularly persistent collection agency just kept hounding, mainly sending threatening letters and notices. So, his dad simply filed a change of address with the post office to the address of the cemetery, complete with lot and space number.
I got bills for one ambulance ride my Mom took in 1990 ….across the street to the hospital…they kept the bill coming for a year …..I kept turning it in to her Medicaid social worker $500 …..for less than a block.
Bruno Zeigerts: In my youth, ambulances were hearses and the service was provided by undertakers. It took quite a while to notice the rather obvious conflict of interest..The casket falls out of the vehicle as they leave for the cemetery; the undertaker says to his assistant, Looks like we better rehearse this one.

No pockets in a shroud so I guess his estate gets the bill.

Remain on the line. Do not attempt first aid. An ambulance will be there eventually.

Or as I said to a clueless bill collector after my Grandfather died: “We can’t go digging him up just for YOU, now can we?”

Now that is ‘on-time efficiency’? Reminds us of too many promises…..even some politicians….

I seem to remember that it was in Liz Taylor’s will that she be late for her funeral.

I can’t stand the idea that someone gets richer by disposing of my body. I’ve left my remains to a medical school.
