Irving: These are your old high school on Facebook?? HOO, BOY! Have they let themselves go!! THAT old guy could be your grandpa! HA, HA! And THAT geezer?? HEY, POPS! WHAT'S UP WITH THE HAIR?? THE '70S ARE OVER! Cathy: That's a picture of YOU, honey. I understand. Let's be happy it's "Facebook", not "From-the-neck-down-book".

I recently reconnected with a friend from high school. I was shocked to see that she hadn’t change a bit since I last saw her, some 30+ years ago! Maybe a couple of tiny lines around the eyes, but other than that…she was just as pretty – AND sweet – as I remembered her…
…and then there’s me.

I ran into a HS guy friend, and was thinking how much he has aged since the last time I saw him. He mentions that he just connected with some old HS friends of ours, and said they really looked old compared to himself. Right! Are we so blind and in love with ourselves that we can’t see what they see?

I looked better then than I do now, but in the future my face now will look better than ever.

Looking through my year book, I realized, I USED to have high cheek bones.

Time is not kind to many of us – especially when you can remember your younger years clearly. The body wears out and gravity seems to get stronger every year. BUT – if you don’t think you are old your are not. Accept the reality but still refuse that impulse to sit on your porch and tell the kids to “get off of my lawn”. Keeping your brain active is critical. My body knows it will be turning 70 all to soon but my brain does not accept 70 as being old. Fortunately my body and brain communicate reasonably well so I don’t overdo it trying to do things that I could 50 years ago. You cannot avoid getting older but you can avoid thinking older. (yes, it does sound like I am trying too hard to convince myself that 70 is not old!)
Have a fantastic Monday – even if it is a Monday.

Haha! I think it’s funny how Irving is yelling at his younger self. I think we all look different than what we think we look like. Which is why I avoid mirrors. ;-)
Hello Cathy friends! Happy Monday! Have a great day, all!

I was overweight in high school…about 240 pounds at 5’10" (none of it muscle). Now I am 170 pounds and do triathlons. It seems like everyone I run into from high school who was athletic has done the exact opposite. I love hearing them say how great I look having lost the weight. But I get uncomfortable thinking of an appearance compliment to reply with. It seems like the average looking people or geeks from high school have a odd habit of aging well (or improving with age), but the people who looked amazing in high school seem to age poorly….especially after they break 30. There are exceptions of course (our valedictorian still looks like a fashion model), but this is my general observation from reunions and random meetings over the last 20 years.

Yup—better double-check before speaking, Irving.
HI, MOM. Hello, Clan.

I do remember walking into one of my reunions and thinking, boy these people look old. Then I realized I was the same age…doing ballet all these years has kept my body very flexible so I can move much more easily than most people in their 70s and I like my hair much better gray than I did when I colored it. I think a big part of it is being satisfied with yourself no matter what age you are.
