Marcy and I struggle with finances because we have four kids!
see, you and mom don't know anything about that...upi only had me!
Plus, that was back when things were cheap!
Do you even hear yourself?
Not really.
Minimum wage jobs typically go to teenage workers getting their first (or second) job ever. They don’t pay a “living wage” because the person isn’t living off it. Raising the minimum wage reduces the number of jobs available for unskilled workers, who therefore never get early job experience, and thus become less likely to be hired to better paying jobs later.
Here’s a sad fact. No where in the US is there an area where a 1 bedroom apt is affordable to a minimum wage full time employee, they all cost more than 30% of their wages.
Why does it take the Government to demand a fair wage for workers anyway? Is there no heart left in anyone anymore? My wife’s responsibilities goes up month after month, yet the last time she got a raise Clinton was president. Which is ironic since the owner is a staunch republican. I’ve always said, "I don’t care how much money someone has, as long as the people who got them there, get a fair share for doing so.
In the 1950s, a person could actually make ends meet on minimum wage. We’ve had lots of political changes since then, so we can’t blame it on any one administration, but minimum wages have NOT kept up with inflation.
Thanks for the Black History Month suggestion that stopping the sagging pants would be a great way to celebrate! Imitating a prison style is demeaning to African Americans.
The last time a bill came to pass to increase the minimum wage I voted against it, not because I don’t believe that people should be paid more, but because I knew that prices would start to rise on everything. I got yelled at by a lot of people at work for my vote. Even after I told them my reasoning. But then when prices started rising I kept saying is ’ I told you so’.
Republican philosophy; Rich people don’t have enough money. Poor people have too much money. See yesterday’s vote in North Carolina. Unemployment benefits cut 35%.
Hannibal Lecter was right — SIMPLICITY. His parents didn’t pay for cell phones, tablets, wifi/internet, downloadable music and/or movies, cable/satellite tv, and all the the other things that we can’t live without these days. We’re overpaying for toys and the services that make them work.
I guess Australians don’t get macro-economics either – despite (or perhaps aided by?) their $16.51 minimum wage, their economy has grown strongly over the last dozen or so years – and their dollar has nearly doubled in value relative to the US dollar.

Yeah, that’s not a facetious argument at all.

Perhaps there should be two minimum wages. One for 15-18 year olds and one for Adults.
