Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for March 12, 2013

Transcript:
Rat: Hey there, Goat... I'd like to introduce you to Mahatma Gandhi. He changed the entire world through his advocacy of non-violent civil disobedience. Gandhi: He looked at me wrong.
Blaming Gandhi for the violence that followed the partition of India into India and Pakistan is a bit like blaming Jesus Christ for all the violence done in the name of Christianity, or the Prophet for the violence done in the name of Islam. Gandhi fought to keep the nation united, but long-simmering religious and racial animosity came to a boil and no one could have prevented it. The Indian independence movement didn’t begin with Gandhi; he simply brought a novel tactic to the table – non-violent resistance. He certainly wasn’t perfect, but he was no “mass-murderer.”
The first thing I do most mornings when I switch on my computer is look up Pearls. I am a great fan. It is the only strip I follow. This is the least funny Pearls out of the hundreds I have enjoyed.
I did try to read Gandhi’s autobiography but it was so very self-congratulatory I gave up. My goodness he thought well of himself. Quite different from the humble image I was told he projected, but then of course he died way before I was born so I don’t know,
Random responses to different comments:1. He states in one treasury that he never reads the comments, that it would mess him up2. He sometimes has lame strips, but I disagree that the strip is getting dumber- you probably just remember the best ones from the past3. Pastis doesn’t worry much complaints. Some of his funnier ones are the ones that caused a lot of complaints. However:4. Based on the story so far, this isn’t funny either. I didn’t see a single comment that said this was remotely funny. I suppose some weird story twist could retroactively make this one work, but I don’t see it.

Gandhi doesn’t wear a halo here, does he? —Though I don’t know that he would actually have bopped Goat with his walking staff.

All I can think about is Ghandi II from UHF. That was a great movie
islefan5 almost 12 years ago
Perhaps this is zombie Ghandi since the real Ghandi died over 60 years ago. Zombies are prone to violence such as feeding on human brains…

Must be the Ghandi from Celebrity Deathmatch.

Looks like this strip is kind of split between people thinking it was funny, and those thinking it was in bad taste. I’ve certainly seen worse strips.

Gandhi II on YouTube.:For those who aren’t familiar with it, it was a one-minute gag in the movie UHF.

Kind of how Buffy the Vampire Slayer does her Gandhi impression.

I’d like to see Gandhi take on Larry and his friends. Then he could be known as Crocodile Gandhi.

Wow, he must have hit him really hard to have flattened a goat – very hard headed.
