I knew she would not take any BS from that toad. Woops I mean panda. ( no I don;t) For some reason I kind of compare him to the troll in Pibcorn, oh you should see him sweat. I digress. I am sincerely hoping ( ahem, Aaron ?) that Linda will be more active and expressive. Factual kind of, yes. She is my name child and I really want her to holler. Tell then how it really is. I am surprised that Flask didn’t spout or maybe she did and advised not to by Dr. DuckOK?Blessed Be
Well, the body may be new, but the mind stays the old one. This is just so human, and often the cause of me thinking that humaneness is not really something worth to preserving…
I think if mutant products wasn’t available as an issue, Allgood would have used interphenotype relationships, and Holly would be on trial for dating Wally instead of some nice mouse boy. Flask has already shown that some people think kinds should stick to their own kinds.Or if mutants weren’t offering of themselves, he might have made it out to be a perversion they weren’t. “You’re not doing your duty to the community, Maude.”Or if mutants were shaving themselves. Or weren’t.Mutant products is an excuse for a trial, not the reason.
Algood had better be careful, for Maude may stop talking to make her point and use the two very sharp points atop her head to punctuate her words. Never butt heads with a bovine mutant, though Algood is an ace in being a butt-head.
It just dawned on me that Linda might be the one that is in real trouble. NOT because she is a former Topsider (though that will not help), but because she STOLE the eggs used in the cake.
Unlike Maude, the chicken-lady was clearly throwing her eggs out and NOT giving them to anyone freely.
Over time, it has been said that one of the reasons the topsiders hate everyone else is because the topsiders are jealous. Jealous of the freedom to move around outside and not live in suits. Would jealousy be part motivation for Algood and his ilk? Algood feels it’s wrong to enjoy these “forbidden foods” so he wants no one to have them? Note that I said part motivation.
I remember the early strips where the endtowners were so sick of beans that they nearly started a riot when a can of them was opened, I’m pretty sure the prosecution is going to have even more rocks thrown at him on the grounds of people thinking he wants them to eat nothing but beans again.
Actually the truth coming out about Linda might be the best thing. She could tell Allgood what it’s like to be a “human” nowdays. There’s a lot about being a “human” that Allgood either doesn’t know or forgot. Maybe telling about the “food” the Topsiders eat would be a good start. Remember how she dug into the beans when Maude asked her what she ate where she came from? It may finally force Allgood to rethink his human “values”.
Perhaps Maude should have asked the question one could extrapolate from panel 4. “Mr. Allgood, are you ashamed of who (what) you are?” That might have stopped the cross-examination right there. If he says yes, then he might as well go over to the topsiders. If he says no, then what’s the problem with each individual taking advantage of what the change has given him/her? Kind of hard to be half ashamed of oneself.
“By putting them in the garbage they were open to anyone to take weren’t they? Yes.”
Maybe.I think some will see it that way, while others will not. Since there really isn’t a law against using mutant by-products in the first place. this trial is really about swaying public opinion and I could see this one going against Linda because the eggs were not given freely.I can also see the question of whether the garbage had been ‘taken out’ yet coming up if the chicken-lady can be found. In some communities, refuse put out on the curb has legally been discarded and taking it is not stealing. But taking that same refuse is not legal while it is still on private property.Man, I love this strip! It really makes one think!
I believe it’s different for Maude as a widow she has learned to take a certain strength in herself. However Holly has come out of a view of the world that has been shattered and separated from Wally she’s just lost her way.Poignant stuff here folks…Another reason to votehttp://topwebcomics.com/vote/12413/default.aspx

Wrong move Allgood. Never bring a deceased loved one into an argument like that. It won you no “brownie” points with the audience.
