And now Zonk’s and Zip’s future is irrevocably ltied to the Colorado drug industry. With Bernie’s help will they become incredibly successful tycoons in a business friendly environment or will The President crack down and send them all to jail.Only President Obama and GT know if sure, if the author has even made up his mind at this point . . . .
Grad School. You can defer the loans for four years for a Master’s, four more for a JD, and seven for a Doctorate, and keep taking out new loans, then pay them off by teaching in an underprivileged area, AND get a private grant for cannabis research.
We want, and we need, a highly educated workforce if we are to say in the game. We have an abundance of young people who want that education but haven’t the money to pay for it. But as seems to be the general pattern these days, what we want we aren’t willing to pay for.
Student loans: both the new servitude and the next economic disaster. The idea that education is the path to economic freedom is hilarious. These two things (the loans and the idea) are just two more control items pushed by the 1% for the 1% to become more 1%.
And the tumblr dude was a dropout.
I’d like to say “good luck grads” but there isn’t any left. It would seem that a revolution will be upon us, perhaps in my lifetime.
We need a technically skilled work force. People being $150k in debt for Art History, Womyns Studies and Sociology are the ones who end up as government Daleks.
Graduated from college and law school about 15 years ago. Owed $130K. Still owe about $60K. Will not be paid off until I’m 61 years old, which is 20 years from now. Haven’t ever been able to buy a house and had to decide not to have kids, just because I couldn’t afford it. The kids that have been working as interns for me are facing having about $100K more debt than I did, and I don’t know how they will ever pay it off before they die.
We’ve become a society of indentured servants. What’s more we’ve done this voluntarily. One can’t blame the 1% for taking advantage of this legal form of slavery – after all, they only had to market the product and the mindless masses bought it.
This country still offers the American dream but the American Dreamers don’t want to get off their collective rear ends and work for it…like really, work!
Unlike many of the 1%, Trudeau (andhis wife) worked for their wealth. As for the rest of the 1% “taking advantage” of the situation, actually, they lobbied hard to have it their way.
Absolutely, I agree. However, it depends where a student goes to school. In Zipper’s case, of course, he went to a private college for about 10 years.
Two of my kids came out with no student loans. One went to a state college and one to an Ivy League (lots of financial aid money there). The two who went to private universities in California owe tons. At least private colleges are usually good about getting a student out in 4 years rather than 5-7 years.
When Zipper started at Walden he had a legacy scholarship, the same one that Zonker had. Also, he claimed to have been named student emeritus which also would imply a free ride.

More bad news. The GOP wants to double the interest rates on your student loans, because you just have it too easy.

The $600,000 loan is accurate for a medical degree. The average loan is now $120,000.
