It would be ideal, for Quill’s short stay, andEase the pain of coming trial with Tiffany &her plan for evil. This could be Luann’s one defense, and it’sa good one: her family.P.S.The Deg roots have housed others and Luann’s virginityremained intact, I.e. “T.J.”Remember: Luann is not a whore, unlikeTiffany, others. She is decent, and a familygirl; she has had good family raising, withvalues.

Seriously Frank? The boy flew 2000+ miles, is barely in the house, and you’re ready for him to do a dine and dash? Where is that supposed great hospitality the country claims to have? I mean, I’m 30 years old, but at 17, my dad would never have been so rude. Good thing Quill is not that sensitive…or observant, it seems. However, I do see one plus to getting to drama camp that much quicker. Can’t wait to see the slow, spiraling descent and crash awaiting Miss Chamber of Horrors.

You know what? Even better if he (Quill)stays with the Degroots,; when he very possiblycomes up missing, he will be missed, quickly. Now we have somebody in the immediate Vicinity to sound the alarm, ah hah!
Yeah! This could thwart Tiff’s plans. :)

Luann’s parents behaviour has certainly changed from the times Luann was allowed to have Quill in her room….or when they were alone together recording their song.
It appears that Luann’s parents planned their strategy in dealing with Quill’s visit ahead of time. Hmmmmm..they must realize that if Luann and Quill want to get together they would most certainly find a location to do so. It would be better to have them in the house where they could keep an eye on them. Am sure Tiffany’s parents are not sweating about this visit from Quill. Of course, they probably don’t care what Tiff does.
kfccanada over 11 years ago
IMHO, it’s time for that visit to the family doctor. When parents reach the stage where they are worried sick about everything their 17 year old daughter is doing, they should be proactive and help their daughter take precautions …just in case.
Quill is a nice guy but he lives 2000+ miles away and Luann would be left to face the music herself. Too many girls face this situation alone because the parents don’t want to be seen as condoning their relationships. Best to discuss this issue together before an innocent child becomes part of the problem.
Make Mine Marvel over 11 years ago
I agree with kfccanada, and I hope the Evanses decide to let Frank and Nancy handle this with wisdom and maturity, not just go for a cheap and easy punch line appropriate for two-dimensional characters.
I’m not, however, holding my breath.

“with vegemite on the side.”^I figured if anything, he’could be GLAD to be going to a country where he could get a break from what he was leaving behind (in particular, the “Veg”…lol!)
JayBluE over 11 years ago
I guess there will be discussion today, where the term “with wisdom and maturity” will be bandied about, and where it could mean ‘to do something that’s more “enlightened”, or “more with it” ‘, as opposed to the “time honored” stance of "teaching them to just say no until they say ’I do’ first", which to some is viewed as “old fashioned” and somehow “evil”, which Frank and Nancy are a little more in line with (As evidenced by their staunch objection to B&T living together)….==Lu is a teen, and the emotional maturity factor does seem to come into play, as the case with all teens, even the ones who seem to be the “responsible” type… Luann has shown herself to not want to be known as the type to do certain things with Quill via phone or computer, as Tiff once tried to accuse her of and slander her with… so, if she wouldn’t do it electronically, it could be reasoned that she wouldn’t want to go that far in person, as well… and the fact that there’s a temptation to do so, is the reason that Nancy and Frank are “hip” to nipping that in the bud…==And they could worry about what could happen outside of their home, but they seem to be the type to keep the lines of communication open, at the very least, and also at least make their views on the matter clear (at least to their kids, outside of our 3d view)….

I never did understand why Luann got so enraged with Tiffany over the ‘sick internet flirting’ comment. (2/21/13). Tiff said it was ‘sick’, but Luann was rubbing Tiff’s face in it with her Boomerang pendant, did she expect anything else? Tiff also described it as ‘Internet Flirting’. Well, Quill and Luann were on the internet. Here’s the part I don’t get, why is ‘flirting’ a bad thing? Shouldn’t Luann be proud and pleased that her relationship with Quill is lovey-dovey? To me it was a typical Luann/Tiffany skirmish, and Luann detonating once she got home seemed like big blow up over nothing. So I wouldn’t say Tiff ‘slandered’ Luann, ‘Sick’ (opinion), ‘Internet’ (Fact), ‘Flirting’ (Fact, if kissing your monitor and talking lovingly counts). Tiff goes on to say ‘All I’m saying is (essentially “one thing leads to another”, and is actually warning Luann against a slippery slope, sadly, one it sounds like Tiff herself belly flopped down before…
Is Tiff perfect? Nooo way! Is she willing to lie? Oh yes! Just not sure she did this time…and with all the nasty things she’s really done, she needs as much of a break as possible:)
That’s just my take on what happened. Obviously Mr. Evans and Luann don’t agree, so…. oh well:)

It would be a cold day before I’d let my HS daughter or son have sex in my house before they’re married. What they do else where …
drewpamon over 11 years ago
Plenty of teens make it through their high school years without sex. Heck some of us make it all the way till marriage. Just because a kid is 17 doesn’t mean they are ready for sex. Even if they think they are.

I hate to break it to you, but not every 17-year-old is in a rush to have sex. Some of us actually were taught to wait until after marriage out of respect for both ourselves and our significant others, and guess what? We did! Just because you threw up your hands and said “Whatever — just don’t get pregnant or an STD,” that doesn’t mean that everyone’s parents did.

It is refreshing to see parents, and particularly a father, still setting House Rules. If Luann were to have Quill sleeping just a thin wall away from her, she might even as a Good Girl do something she’d regret. Besides, the DeGroots don’t “owe” Quill anything beyond a welcome to the USA, a free meal, and a free trip to the Drama Camp that he is here to attend….

You know, I am no father, but after seeing some of the comments listed here I can see that this is a hot topic. I applaud how subtle the dad was here. Making a firm statement yet no yelling (at least not yet). Great stand for fathers everywhere who still stand up for family values.
Gerry Lee over 11 years ago
@IamJayBluE—- Okay, I can see you and Luann getting that impression. Tiffany was obviously insinuating something negative, we will just disagree on what. For me, Tiff doesn’t mention internet lewdness until after she makes the disclaimer ‘Fine, whatev. I’m just saying be careful. It starts with (flirting)…’ which she did accuse Luann of, and then goes on to describe a raunchy escalation that can follow such flirting. But it’s just the ‘sick flirting’ she actually accused Luann of as far as I can see. Ah well, I could easily be wrong about this, I think Luann’s reaction showed that Mr. Evans intended Tiff’s barbs to have a wicked meaning as you put forth.
locake over 11 years ago
Of course Quill would stay in the dorm at Drama Camp. They probably have activities all day long and no one wants to drive him back and forth every day. I’ll bet Luann’s parents had some part in her not getting into the camp. They wanted to keep them apart somewhat. They didn’t want Quill and Luann together so much at the camp.
Gerry Lee over 11 years ago
I know Tiffany is due for some ‘come-uppance’ in this whole ‘Drama Camp’ thing. But unless Quill for some inexplicable reason decides suddenly that he like Tiffany too, how can Tiffany be anything more than a minor nuisance to the love birds Quill and Luann? I’ve been re-reading the earlier Quill strips, and he really seemed totally disinterested in Tiffany even before Luann got a hold of him, and his opinion of Tiff certainly hasn’t improved since then. I know Mr. Evans will make a good story out of this. The question is, how?
JayBluE over 11 years ago
That’s a good question! I was just thinking it was gents’ quarters on one side, ladies’ on the other… so used to thinking in terms of “cabins”… could be a big difference, with dorms…. unless they’ve got rooms on one side of it and the other for both, in each particular building, with a shared area in between…

@IamJayBluE—- ….! Wow, Tiff is rubbing off on me, it never occurred to me that she might not be at the center of the Drama Camp storyline! I like your Quill and Luann centered ‘trust’ scenario very much. It’d be ironic if Tiff did more damage to their relationship without doing anything due to Luann’s own insecurities and fears….
Gerry Lee over 11 years ago
@argybargy2—- Well, I will bow to the majority in this case. I might be right technically about the exact words Tiff did or did not say, then again I could be wrong. But obviously other readers saw what Tiffany was getting at. What’s more, Luann has had 25 years of tangling with Tiff, she probably knows how Tiff meant it better than I do, ha ha:)

Quite frankly, if I were Luann, I’d be more frustrated with her dad in the car than in this scene. Here, he’s engaging in typical fatherly behavior, which is to be expected. But when he’s in the car with Luann at the wheel, his back seat driving would drive me crazy enough to open the passenger door and kick him out at 40 MPH!!

I don’t think the amount of time spent on this forum is an indication of good or bad posting habits. Due to choice and/or life’s circumstances, some of us have more time than others. Some of us sadly have too much time on our hands. But if the posts are sound, I think they are none the worse for being one of many. So God bless the 24/7 crowd, and those that just drop in for a casual chat about our favorite strip:)
Besides, hanging out on the forum means plenty of time to read the archives between postings. I found out some wonderful things today:
Tiffany has never actually had a boyfriend. It wasn’t Tiffany who came up with the name Sheraton St. Louis, it was Crystal (the smart one:) )Luann was perfectly willing to dress up as ‘Zeye’ in the skimpy costume, as Tiffany was later.I found my favorite strip of Tiff again, the one that made me fall for her. It’s right after the Eyes of Zeye movie let’s out and everyone is in pain and nausea from it. And there, sitting alone behind her little autograph table is poor little Tiff. That one made me think ‘This person needs a friend badly’, ha ha!
Gerry Lee over 11 years ago
@IamJayBluE – Hi JayBluE! Well, taking Luann at her word, then one should assume that Tiffany did indeed suggest that Luann was doing something perverted. A very weak point in my argument I see now was dismissing the fact that Tiffany repeatedly used the word ‘Sick’ to describe the flirting. Apparently you, Luann, and most of the other posters here know what is being implied by Tiff, and it’s not unreasonable to link ‘sick’ with the ‘sexting’ scenario Tiff describes in the strip. I admit I am splitting hairs to defend Tiff here. It’s tough being a Tiffany fan. But I’m learning a lot:) The first stage I went through was denial (maybe I’m doing a bit of that today too). When the slander story took place I refused to believe Tiffany might have had a sexy video on the internet. I got mad because if it created the kind of scandal Tiff was describing, where she would be branded ‘internet sleaze’ for all time, why is there no indication of this in the comic? Since then I have decided that when Tiff is bad, I should just ‘love the sinner not the sin’. The second thing I learned is I don’t have to tear down other characters to justify Tiff. I used to do that a lot here, but I have realized Tiff is Tiff, Luann can be a Saint, Luann can be the Devil, Luann can just be the girl next door trying to get by, and Tiff will still be Tiff… Maybe one day I will learn that this is just a comic strip. But what fun is that? Ha ha! I find it much more interesting to have an emotional investment in the characters and stories, and to be a Otaku for Tiffany Farrell:) Punting around ideas about her with you guys is fun!
