@Baucuva: Very very true, but blame that on the politicians who set the speed limits artificially low, not on the cops just doing their jobs to enforce them.
There’s a little town near me (pop. about 150) that has a state highway running through it and precisely one stop sign. The posted speed limit is 30 for about a mile and a half approaching the stop sign. At the end of the month, when the town’s bills come due, that stretch of road becomes a cash cow.
I just found out that those traffic light cameras are owned and operated by a company and the only a very small portion of the fines collected by them actually go to the municipality. And guess what ( at least in Florida ) if you are a scofflaw and don’t pay, it cannot go against your license because it is not State or City regulated -unlike toll booths. If, however, you do pay for going through a traffic light, it can be counted against you.
Been there, heard that.My retort:“Well I would but I had to deal with you first. Now if you behave I can look for real criminals.”On a side note. Many simple traffic stops for what you would see as insignificant has turned in major arrests. The OKC bomber was stopped for traffic, like said earlier the Colorado shooter stopped for traffic (I saw the video deputy’s vest saved him), I captured a killer of a DEA agent who was wanted out of California (he held a gun to his head threatening to shoot himself if I did not let him go. I encouraged him to shoot himself. Punk gave up crying.)For those of you who have met cops with an attitude sorry you had to deal with those. They chap my butt doing what they do. I will always treat you with respect as long as you let me. I never break off an attitude. I always have the last laugh.“Sign here please.”
I’ve never had a bad experience with a cop and I’ve been pulled over a few times in my life. The one that sticks out the most was many years ago. I was pulled over for doing 65 in a 55 by a NY state trooper. After writing up the seven dollar !!! speeding ticket he returned my driver’s license and wished me a Happy Birthday. We both laughed.
I’m somewhat biased here coming from 3 generations of law enforcement.(Border Patrol, Highway Patrol, Justice Of The Peace)But..the few times I’ve been pulled over I have actually deserved it..I am polite, responsive, and sign the ticket knowing that the next traffic stop that cop makes after I’ve driven away might be his last..I’ve been to enough law officer funerals thankyou…
“Caught any murderers lately?”-“Why, yes, sir I have. Careless drivers killed over 32 thousand people last year. I just stopped a careless driver and may have saved your life by stopping you. Or I may have saved some other person. I‘m doing my part, now how about you doing your part?”-“Sheesh, some people you just can’t make conversation with.”
After being passed by numerous cars on I-5 in California I decided to step up my speed to match theirs at 75mph..It was around Christmas so many of us were traveling in packs of 5 to 15 different vehicles..After 5 minutes of this I looked to see CHP lights flashing in my rear view mirror..When I stopped and he walked over to passenger window I asked him why he picked me out of 15 cars..He said “I didn’t..you were the only one to pull over to the side.”

I got a tip some years ago: If you wave at a cop, remember to use all your fingers.
