She’s hotter than a two dollar Tijuana tart on a Saturday night when the fleet’s in!

Today’s strip is homage to Katy Keene, an Archie Comics character who was tall, lithe, and hotter than Bisbee, Arizona. Every issue of Katy Keene Comics in the 1950s devoted one page to paper dolls — sometimes featuring Katy, sometimes Gloria, sometimes Katy’s repulsive little sister, all designed by Katy’s actual juvenile readers, whose full names and addresses were printed next to the designs. If you buy a VINTAGE Katy Keene comic now, be sure that the paper doll page is intact and not desecrated by some thoughtless child 50 years ago.Fans also submitted designs for cars. Katy’s ballet slipper car (from the original art in my collection) is a good example. But Dan’s excellent take on Katy in today’s strip refers to one of these:

I remember seeing paper dolls and fashions in old Betty and Veronica comic books as well. Loved the"Cobra" take on it.

Thanks Kit Walker, I never knew about Katy Keene…from the caption I’d say Cobra stole the pearls too…

Cobra Carson: A true dresser of Disguise. Nice way of deceiving Rip by taking advantage of his apparent lack of her rap sheet. If I were Rip, I would have thought Cobra would be a suave, gentlemen thief, a modern Pink Panther.

Hathaway Brown would be most disappointed Rip.

It’s better that Rip may be kicked out of the Adventurers’ Club than joining the Super Adventurers’ Club from “South Park”.
