The library website actually has a lot of info for looking stuff up instead of going there! She should have said, we had to look at encyclopedia volumes! I remember when they sold those door to door!
Ahh… the good ol’ days! I had a work/study job in college, at the library – I got to type up the cards for the card catalog (on a manual typewriter). Loved it – I got to see all the brand new books just as they arrived!
Hah, that’s interesting! I had to go look it up xD. Ameliorate – to make better or more tolerable. Ameliorism – the desire to solve social problems by reforming individuals….but that one’s from yahoo answers and doesn’t count. Hard to find trustworthy sites; there’s just too much junk out there on the net : /
I work in a library and have heard many stories of patrons spending an hour on a computer trying to find information, only to have it handed to them in five minutes when they finally ask a librarian. We rule!

My old book store and the public library had the same phone number except for the two interior digits reversed. If we knew the answer, we would give it to wrong numbers and never let on.
I seldom look for meanings of words because most that I hear are familiar to me. My last intense use of the library was for one of my first engineering projects (being self taught I had not yet had occasion to delve into gear ratios and such.
I designed a machine that accomplished the tedious task of cutting (w/ resistance heat) 2 slashes on 6" centers for the length of an entire spool of nylon ribbon while taking from one spool and rewinding on another. The workers who had sat there performing that mind numbing task were happy and my boss was happier.
I had just learned a new skill. I was not yet 30 but we were still far from having the www at that time.

As a librarian, I always find it funny that people actually believe you can find everything with Google.
