Brad wasn’t “worried” about Dirk, but she was trying to establish the funny irony in the situation… =Had she not mentioned it at that time during her proposal, we all would have been asking if there was still a “pot burning on the back stove”, so to speak… so it seemed Greg’s way of making Brad feel good, and making it clear to us that it was time to move on… so, in a way, the romance wasn’t really “killed” during the dinner and the proposal… this is also evidenced by Brad’s reaction (including both his and her “euphoria” on their ride home from the restaurant…

I agree – me too. I seriously think Shannon would have beat out Tiff for the drama camp…^Yeah, hard to argue with that… or Shannon, for that matter… ha ha!

If anything, it showed that she was forced to move on.^It maybe a case of seeing the glass as either part empty or full, here… she stated to Brad that seeing him in the state that he was, was like “closure”….. every relationship is not always “cut and dry” in the matter of issues that need to be resolved before moving on, and again, it could be just a matter of perspective, I guess…= And then it went away when Brad was grousing about it to TJ ^In that instance, the subject at hand was in choice of rings…. his grousing had to do with a side issue, that apparently is no longer an issue, and even then, he didn’t like how it went down, but eventually both were able to view the “water under the bridge” with only a passing thought, and have not let it become a “thing”…. at least for the time being….

Nice play-acting! Brad is getting along well with Shannon, and that’s a definite plus towards his relationship with Toni.And Shannon’s take on how Aunt Toni would have reacted to a proposal from Brad (right down to the blop) is great!

I’ve always liked the Toni-Brad arc. Brad’s a nice guy by almost any standard, and deserves a good deal in life. His handling of Shannon shows the matuity that lurks under the surface.

Anyone want to take odds on Brad & Toni (once married), formally adopting Shannon? I realize the pressure will be on for them to have their own children, but it would seem the excellent bonding that Brad (and even Lu when she babysits) have achieved with Shannon, as well as all the obvious good it has done her, is just too ideal to pass up!

This is another of Lev’s troll subjects. TJ likes women, and he isn’t shown with a GF because there’s no one in the strip appropriate for him to be with. TJ with no GF is no weirder otherwise than Bernice or Delta or Tiff or Ox or anyone else in the strip who could by now but does not have a “relationship”—unless you think that Bern, Delta and Tiff are all asexual too and the idea of having sex with anyone, regardless of gender, turns them off.

Barbies have always been for little girls to fantasize what their teen & youing adult lives will be like.

Shannon being a cute kid. The whole gang is good for that little girl she is lucky her aunt Toni loves her and includes her…. yeah, yeah it’s a comic. It happens sometimes in real life, unfortunately not often enough.

What’s with the background? It switches color back and forth between panels.

No doubt Toni will adopt Shannon, as the strip’s retcon for not admitting in the first place that Shannon is in fact Dirk and Toni’s offspring. Eventually Shannon will be calling Toni “Mom”, and the whole background of Toni’s brother (who seems to spend about one hour per month, max, with Shannon) will fade into memory, never to be mentioned again.

My sister’s husband was unique in how he proposed; she and I had just gotten off work from the theater we worked at, walked to her car, and found inside her then-boyfriend’s iPod plugged in and playing the same hip hop song over and over, and hanging on the rearview mirror were two silver necklaces with charms and the engagement ring.When he showed up, my sister jumped on him, and there was a lot of kissing involved while I was huddled in the car trying to unplug the iPod so that it would stop playing that song.

My perspective is that no marriage proposal should include a discussion of your ex.^I also feel that an ex shouldn’t be a part of a person’s relationship, either… And I forgot to add this part to what I was explaining in my other post: "But I really think that Toni, in this instance had already tired of Dirk, as was evidenced during the time when we all found out that Dirk was a garbageman…. she was trying to make sure that her subsequent actions were from her independent thought, and not from a dark place resulting from the abuse that she suffered at his hands… I think that it’s more to do with her recovery from his abuse, than from any “leftover feelings” for him, as also evidenced by Brad’s calm reaction to the matter… if it were anything else, Brad would have reacted in that way"….

then Brad will gladly say, “Yes, Toni. Whatever you say, Toni.”^Now Brad has shown the tendency to acquiesce to Toni, but I don’t think it was because of any fear of losing Toni (as shown when he was ready to “move on” when she was still clinging to Dirk… though he probably would feel a lot of pain afterward, but he came to the realization when Frank talked to him about it)… more so the wanting to see her happy, as Frank has learned with Nancy, all these years… and also he just doesn’t know how to express his feelings as adequately, the spitting image of his father… there are certain matters he has stood up for, and some that he has seen it was just “easier” to let Toni have her say… as indicated when they were working on the truck, he realizes she has something special about her in the ol’ noggin, and she can put a wrench in her hand and not be destructive with it, and gorgeous to boot? Okay, in that sense, he would want to make sure that he does not lose her, Lol!…..

I guess, the best way to respond is to borrow JPW’s words…. “imagination”, “tongue in cheek”, and all references to different aspects that can be found in each strip… a picture (or even dialogue, for that matter) is worth a thousand words…. some “gags” or situations portrayed also could have more than one application.. and many of us here bring up different things… check out Friday, Saturday, Sunday, even yesterday’s as examples… many of us bring up many different aspects… and still can be traced back to the strip….this particular one way is just my way of bringing just a few up…… =Check out “Speed Bump”, “F-”, “Herman”, “Hank the Sock”, and many others, and tell me if some of the same things aren’t going on there… because they are…

And to add to that, that’s the way things get invented (such as the processes that brought us the radio, TV, vacuum, automobile, microewave, etc., or new trends in society, even fashion, even the concept of offense and throwing passes to receivers in American football.. all because some people decided to “get creative” and do something that may not have been done before and others who also do something of their own, or some add on to someone else’s, and… voila!….

And your posts are the weirdest on this strip… if even the stie…… though the “top ten” was creative…..though you were slamming some of us on it…..

Why does Brad ‘acqueise’ to Toni?

Then just in case we readers failed to gather that it was because Dirk was married Toni proposed, Evans wrote the proposal so Toni would say she proposed because she saw Dirk and he was married. It was not subtle^Now, that’s possible, but not necessarily so…. as with everything, time afterward would bear these things out…. she said it was because of Dirk, but anything else would be more of each of our own slant… she said it was after seeing Dirk, but such a statement can be taken in more than one way… she had given indications that she wanted to be with Brad and not Dirk… her running into Dirk was no mere “oh, thiiiiiiis is how I feel”, after seeing his change… it had already been in the making, since the news that he was back around……..

And while this is true,, even a thief will fall in love…. check the history books… there have been some infamous persons…. some married and left them, some just kept their loves on a shelf… but somewhere, somehow, they did find the one that if they ever actually weren’t scoundrels in the anals of history… besides, the eye contact given in that strip between them showed this possibility… and a second besides, I never said that he’d suddenly change instantly… and this is Tiffany and TJ that we’d be talking about.. but I was referring to the “hint” of possibility that Greg gave there… not a statement of fact… that’s the difference in what I was saying… that those two had shown mutual attraction in that strip… even if TJ saw himself in the reflection of her eyes…. and vice versa….

These are artistic expressions. It’s actually beautiful. Why are you focusing on this. Give it a rest.

While I accept the possibility that TJ might be asexual, hiding that would look no different on paper from him just being a scoundrel who fears commitment. Not falling for girls/women who are fundamentally unlikable, like Ann or Tiffany, proves only that he has a modicum of taste. Resisting Luann, Diane or Toni only shows that he would rather skip that momentary pleasure than lose Brad’s friendship, possibly with some violence included. Clearly not worth it. I think it is obvious to anyone why school age TJ would have found Delta a drag, but he’s grown up a bit since then, even though she is just starting to. There are perfectly acceptable reasons why he has not bitten any of the bait offered. He has so far only been interested in risk free women like Toni’s friend. That could mean he’s a scumbag, which we have observed to be true. Or it could mean he has no interest.

I actually like the idea of TJ and Diane. He is much better suited to her than Brad was, and it would make some charmingly awkward stories available.

My thoughts exactly, Dave53. I get the impression only so many couples will ever grace this strip. F&N, given. Brad&Toni will go on forever and ever. Hopefully Luann&Quill will not, but probably will. Gunther got paired with Rosa to remove him from the Luann & ____ (fill in the blank) equation, I bet. Otherwise, why him? Why not any of the other kids? Why do the other kids still not have a current relationship? It’s just the writing. No other reason. TJ’s not asexual, Tiff’s not so deficient she can’t possibly have a relationship, Bern’s not so whatever that she can’t have a guy, etc. etc. It’s just the writing. So, I’m hoping that the Evanses eventually get around to aiming a gal at TJ. And that the resulting story doesn’t suck.
