Option B, it seems to me, would be for the costumer to design himself a swimsuit.

It would be nice for Rosa to help him out in picking something, but one thing stands in Gunther’s way…. it starts with a “G”….=Gunther’s fears of letting his guard down are a mountain for him, right now… and he seems to not want to have this information in the open for Rosa to know….. if it were that simple in his eyes, then you’d be seeing her taking him shopping in today’s strip… he eventually may come around to a solution, (including letting Rosa go shopping with him) the same way that he learned to, when it was “prom time”…. and it may take Knute’s… uh….ways to convince him that he couldn’t do worse on his own terms…=He may again learn to just be himself, or at least that Rosa already appreciates him… and as soon as he realizes that he is a person who “puts on his trunks one leg at a time”, just like everyone else, it will then be more progress on his part…

That’s it. Make Gunther a man in the dressing room.

I was just wondering..we never actually saw Quill get on the plane. The arc ended before Quill contacted Luann telling her he was back home. It would not surprise me if Quill showed up at the pool party…with Tiff. What a dramatic senior yearstory line that would make…

Are we supposed to find Gunther’s emotional development (which stopped when he was still wearing the Smurf swimsuit) cute and endearing? Well I don’t, and Rosa shouldn’t, either. Rosa needs a boyfriend, not a man-child to adopt.

No I think Knute is a perfect friend for Gunther. Gunther has a totally hot girlfriend, and its not sexist to say he needs to man up for her. I know he is shy, but this is the guy who will come back at the 10 or 20 year renunion with Rosa with several kids, and supporting them as a millionaire, while she is a Justice of the State Supreme Court. And I bet he is buffed under that nerd outfit of his. He is just shy. His friends, such Knute, will definitely help him out. Now if he just stay conscious when he sees Rosa rock that bikini.

There is only one one swimsuit that men can wear: blue swim trunks. No Speedos, bikini bottoms, thongs, etc. All other colors either wash you out or make you look fat. Blue swim trunks. That’s it.

I saw an old Superman comic once where Allen Funt on Candid Camera tried to play a trick on Clark Kent, pulled open the phone booth door, and caught him in the act of changing. He had to do some fast thinking to get out of that.

I love the normal white shorts that my lover wore at his pool. He since had it filled in to build a big garage tho’. Now I have the pool at my house.

Seems to me that Speedos fill the bill…either that or the swimsuits the men wear for swim matches…never could understand why guys started wearing those “huge shorts.”

Perhaps Gunther will end up wearing “swim trunks” as the middle choice between Speedos and those awful long shorts… ;)

When did people start commenting on this strip? I’ve noticed that when I check back to these old strips there’s either no comments at all or just a few that are seemingly just a few months old.

To me, I think that Gunther gets especially emboldened when Luann pays some specific attention to him…. not just when she’s around him, but when he sees that she is reaching out to him personally in a matter… even in a strictly platonic way, from her standpoint…=He still is “Gunther” in his ways with her, but does seem more at ease (relatively speaking) with Luann, than with anyone else, as far as the opposite sex is concerned…. I bring up the double date as an example for this, but there can be other examples.. to me, he seems to not have to try so hard when he’s around Lu…..

=This is a common rumor, but not true. Bill Finger did not die in poverty. But as far as intelligence is concerned, Rosa and Gunther are more compatible than many of the others…. the only difference being the social and physical, which is more edged to her in their relationship, as you mentioned.. but the one difference, again, is that he can actually hold a conversation with her and not have to go d-huuuuuh (at least in the intelligence dept… still a work in progress otherwise)…..

One thing about that premise, though, is Quill… it remains to be seen whether he is here to stay or not….. it would seem plausible, but the one tangle in that is him….

Good-looking guys, like Quill and Aaron Hill, have to be gay and/or shipped across the ocean, leaving the good-looking women to be shared by Gunther, Brad, Knute, etc. A typical male fantasy-fulfillment comic strip, like all those “Babe and Blob” TV sitcoms in which we are supposed to accept that overweight, unattractive male actors are married to smoking hot gorgeous actresses.

The closer to romantic Luann becomes with Gunther, the more abusive she gets, demanding that he not be Gunther. Sometimes she gets the idea that she might feel something for him, if only he would give up his “boring” hobbies, and be more like her. We already saw a guy who was just like her. He was so obnoxious he had to be shipped off to Hawaii.
