I like Belize. He can go to Belize and make ceviche and fried plantains for me!

Even with all its faults I like Canada, and I’m staying put.

What about going back to Europe? Or is this foreshadowing their next vacation?

Go play with Bradley, Paul; it will clear your head. Then you will realize that you should really move to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, and become a sailboarding instructor.

Charles Smith: Yeah, I remember those days. There were still lynchings; women couldn’t serve on juries or even own real estate or sign contracts if married; you could feel a B-36 before you could hear it; separate but unequal schools; penicillin was the only antibiotic (other than sulfa); telegraph was still the fastest documented communication; polio was a major crippler; second-hand smoke was everywhere; etc. Lovely.

Yes every age has its trials and tribulations. For a young couple like Claire and Paul, plans have to be somewhat more realistic. I agree that life was much better in the 50s and 60s, but I was still young then too. Things do not appear to be going in the right direction now at all (certainly not for me personally).

It is important to find a place of calm away from the world, but it can be in your heart.
